Welp just got my new 1330 replacement..my old one had a t7300 and this one has the penryn t9300

    t7300 idle @ 36C load @ 78C
    t9300 idle @ 27C load @ 61C

and this is with the 6 cell..meaning w/the 9 cell there'd be more airflow, but at these temps i could care less about airflow...61C full load is amazing for a c2d @ 2.5ghz

Lucky you about your upgrade but you probably went through quite a bit to get it so it was well probably earned.

Just wondering about your battery life what was it with the T7300 processor you had and what is it now?

I have read some info in the Sony forum and it seems like these SZ7 notebooks with the Penryn processors don't have as good battery life as the SZ6 SR notebooks.

Seeing as i am thinking about switching to Penryn i would like to know what the situation really is.

actually i didnt even ask for it..took me about 10-15 min to get my replacement setup
i didnt know i got a t9300 till i checked my order status
w/the t7300 think i got something like 3hrs, i dont really kill the battery much, so im not sure what improvement ill see but based on reviews id say 15-25 min

Damn, those are some awesome values :D Btw, how exactly did you load your CPU?

A big favor: would you please consider installing Intel's Thermal Analysis Tool ( TAT) and manually loading the cores (starting around 80% - both cores, and working your way up to ~95%). My goal is to see how the Penryn's hold up to really hard-core loads. So far, my luck's varied quite a bit...

Thanks and above all, enjoy it :)

Does the machine feel cooler with the new processor; does it actually make a difference when you touch it?

I am running Intels TAT with workload level set at 100% and 2 instances of Prime95 running with in-place FFTs. I peak at 77/78 with the processor at full bore (2200Mhz, I have a T7500). At 1600Mhz which is what the processor seems to throttle to for the majority of Prime95 testing the CPUs hover around 69-71.

Shut the machine down for 30 minutes (dissapated the heat) and then started back up again. After loading all the startup programs the CPU is idling at 59-60. This is with a stock Dell image and all the bloatware...I'm sure there are 60 million processes running in the background (it's actually 62 processes  ).

This is in a house with a 70 deg. ambient temperature on a desk with a 6 cell battery, plugged into AC power.

I'm off to install the T9300...see you all shortly.

OK bad news. It looks like Intel hasn't updated their TAT software yet (I get "Invalid Processor" upon trying to run it) so I can't give you any temps. As soon as there's an updated software available let me know and I'll run it.

BTW, that processor upgrade was soooo painless! Nice job on Dells part.

Oh, I certainly didn't expect that...!

It's hard to tell if Intel will provide an updated version to the public: as it is, you can't find this application on their website...

Thanks for giving it a go, though! Have a rep on me, too :D
