Theoretical question: Would penryns work on a normal santa rosa chipset since it uses socket P as well? I'm hoping that I'll be able to stick in a penryn myself later on cause I already bought my 1530.

yes i think so but the bus speed would be lower, sum1 in ths forum has this on their m1330

yes, but your motherboard wont be able to make full use of it! Actually no motherboard can that is out at the moment, only the new ones being released summer 2008 will make full use of it (cant remember the name of the mobo tho!).
So there's no point in wasting your money on it! Yes you will have an extra 2MB of L2 Cache, less heat and slightly better battery...but is that REALLY worth all that money?? I know the 2.4GHz Santa Rosa costs $350 from Amazon.com! So how much do you reckon a 2.4GHz Penryn will cost?
And when I say yes, i mean yes it will fit, but your BIOS wont support it, so you need to get a BIOS update! -
You will be able to put a penryn in the m1530 but the bus speed would downclock to 800Mhz beacuse it is still santa rosa

but the performance difff is minimal so is power saving (10% for wattage usage but remeber there are other componets so this will only increase battery life by say 5% and it is about 5% more powerful)

I was considering the same thing with my M1330 once Penryn would come out. But now I'm thinking otherwise...
Penryn in 1530?
