Was it worth the upgrade? Initially when I got my Vostro 1400...4GB were WAY too expensive... so I went for 2GB.

Now 4GB is a alot cheaper... so i'm considering it

Oh and I understanding 32bit OS won't take all 4GBs

It will be worth it, you would be better going for 64bit though as you will obviously get all the ram working properly. It would still give a huge boost in 32bit too and well worth it with cheap prices.

I did not ever use 2GB on my computer, but . . .

The other computers I have used with only 2GB but similar processors and GPU's get smoked by this one. Vista knows how to use that extra 1.5GB.

I concur...I got 2GB of DDR from dell in my m1330, I just upgraded to 4GB a couple days ago and installed Vista ultimate 64. Vista is VERY good at making full use of all the RAM you can throw at it; much in the way linux does.

Even right now, I have only firefox and googletalk windows open, and I only have 28MB of RAM free, with almost 3GB cached by Vista. This is exactly what makes vista so smooth with lots of ram...Almost everything i need is right there in cache so it's very responsive and hardly ever slows down.

I bought 4GB of OCZ DDR2-800 RAM from a local store for $99CDN...for prices like that, it's definitely worth it.

Any specific brand of RAM you might recommend? On Crucial, I see 4GB of DDR2 PC2-5300 RAM (for my M1330) for $129.99. On Newegg, I see brands like A-DATA and G-Skill for $79.99. PNY and Kingston aren't too much more either. Any ideas? I think I'm going to make the jump to 4GB from 2GB. Wonder what I can do with those extra 2 gigs of RAM, probably nothing...

For 667 SO-DIMMS, you aren't going to see a big difference in speed between the different brands. just go with a cheap one with a good warranty.

OCZ is a very good brand, they offer lifetime warranties, and they are quite cheap and good quality.

You can't go wrong with Crucial, but out of the brands you listed, i'd go for the G-Skill....they use quality chips and are a well-known brand. Kingston is also a good laptop-brand RAM provider as they are known for choosing high quality ram chips, albeit at a higher cost.

My notebook never goes over 1.5 gb so what is the point of 3 or 4 gbs,

you would only do that if you were going for 64bit right!!

Well, I have used my notebook with 1GB of RAM and Vista "learns" to only use up to 1GB.

I then upgraded to 2GB and Vista started using about 1.2GB of it.

Now, I have 4GB and Vista uses @ least 1.4GB and over 2GB when loading games.

So maybe for quick opening of applications, i should get 4gb’s of ram, and while im at it i will get a 7000rpm seagate, to put in to my notebook after i buy it to save money :D this way i will make sure that i get a decent brand of harddrive!

will this affect the warrantee or not, and is it worth it, i can try to sell the items on ebay, but there is always a risk that you won’t get enough money for them!

Just installed 4GB of Kingston RAM. I can definitely see an improvement overall, in startup time, lagging when running programs, multi-tasking, etc. We'll worth the $89.99 I spent. I can't believe how Dell, Apple and all these other companies charge so much for RAM upgrades. They totally take advantage of people who either don't know any better or are just too afraid to take care of a RAM upgrade themselves!
