The Dell phone rep I spoke with today about purchasing an XPS 1530 said that he and his colleagues are not allowed to discount XPS systems beyond the standard discounts/coupons offered. Seemingly to prove his point, he similarly configured a Latitude notebook then lopped off a couple hundred bucks for me. I really want an XPS, not Latitude, though.

Anyone have experience one way or the other with XPS systems? I've talked to at least three reps now, and none will offer more than the standard discounts.

Either keep calling or buy it with the standard discount. The reps aren't required to give you anything off the laptop.

Call the EPP number and try and get it there. I got my rep to give me the $400 off coupon and the 8% EPP discount, and he also threw in free overnight shipping on my XPS 1530. So yes they can discount it a little further, you just have to tell them that you can get a better discount online. Also tell them that you can get an extra 3% off with FatWallet.com, they usually will match it or beat it.

Sorry for newbie questions, but isn't the EPP for Dell employees only? How does a non-employee access that site/phone?

no the epp is for those who are in the member purchase program, for example students.

How do you get access to the member purchase program? I am not a student.

I entered Dell through an EPP link and now have a system in my cart with a nice discount. If I purchase it without being an EPP member, will Dell cancel it? Anyone with experience with this?

My Business rep told me they cannot discount XPS systems, (but they can do plenty on the other lines).

EPP is your best option b/c the 8 or 16% off stacks with whatever discount there might be.

That is not true. There are ample number of purchases here where there have been huge discounts with reasoning and without.

They will discount the XPS, though the reps will haggle harder it seems. I was on the phone to mine for a good half an hour.

    Persistance and politeness pays.

Will Dell cancel my EPP order if I don't have an EPP #?

Try it and see. You've not lost anything if they do have you?

I will just try it... if it comes to that.

Is there a list of EPP companies?
