I had the opportunity to take a few (rather low quality unfortunately) pictures of my M1330 compared to a MacBook earlier today. I read of a few people who wanted to see the similarities and differences in dimensions, so here they are.

As you can see, the MacBook is thinner at the back, but thicker at the front. The panel is clearly significantly thicker than the LED backlit panel of the M1330. As well, the M1330 is a bit deeper, but slightly narrower than the MacBook. The M1330's display is also brighter (both at max).

    thanks for the pics!

After seeing this comparison I'm not as impressed as I was with the XPS as I had been. I feel that more laptops should use optical drives to save space.

That LED backlight looks nice btw!

I kinda wish I went with a xps/macbook now... but I could never live with a 13" screen.

No problem - Do you mean you wish they'd ditch optical drives altogether to reduce size?

    I'm kinda the opposite..
I think the macbook is a bit vanilla and bland.

But sometimes I could see where you would want a predictable shape and not a wedge or bulge etc..

Likewise...the white of the Mac has made itself....unbearable to many just for that fact.

Wow. The M1330 is thick, but still thinner than my Inspiron 9100.

Thick in a good way. Had to fit in all that makes it better than the current (non upgraded Leopard) Macbook ;)

Actually its not thick at all....In fact the way it sit on a table with the 6 cell makes it appear to be much lower than it actualy is...in my opinion...

    Its...aerodynamic!!

It will be much more "aerodynamic" when Nehalem is put in it. :) ;)

the biggest flaws in the XPS design to me is the keyboard and the trackpad. the keyboard looks like it was an afterthought, and i appreciate the way that Apple/ex-Sony's designers incorporated the keys into the actual design of the laptop. Dell's keyboard looks like it is an off-the-shelf part that was painted and thrown on. as for the trackpad - i'm really, really jealous of the generous size of Apple's trackpads. granted, they need to be this way to easier accommodate two-finger gestures, but it's still a nice touch.

I think it'll be a while before Dell ever adopts a keyboard design like that of the Apple or Sony. The M1330's Synaptics trackpad seems pretty nice to me. I have an external bluetooth mouse but almost always use the trackpad because it's so accurate and responsive. You really don't need a bigger trackpad, this work so well.

With that said, the M1330 is so much thinner than the Inspiron 9100 and most other Dell notebooks. There's just no comparison there.

The MacBook does look much "cleaner" and better constructed. Where as seams are visible on the M1330, the MacBook looks so smooth and solid. Dell hasn't managed to produce a design that even comes close to this yet. The M1330 is an amazing machine, but Apple is still a step ahead in the design department.

I might add that these pictures of the M1330 look quite dull. The MacBook, as well as the M1330, look much better in person. :D I favor the design of the M1330. After using the M1330 for a while, I wonder how I could've used any other laptop for so long. The M1330 is the best Dell laptop out there period. And it rips those 17" monster laptops to pieces ;)

But it only has one mouse button.
    I just hate that.

The mac trackpad might be spacious but it absolutely pails in comparison to the accuracy and sensitivity of both the m1210 and m1330 trackpad. These are truly phenomenal trackpads.

Wow, Macs look horrible in my opinion. Way too bland. I absolutely love the m1330 design. I think the gigantic track pad and only one button make it look even worse.

So true. I was using my friend's Vostro 1400 the other day and the one thing I really hated about it was the non-Synaptics trackpad. It doesn't do gestures like my XPS M1210 and it just wasn't very usable. I'll definitely make sure any laptop I buy has a Synaptics trackpad.

true, the Mac trackpad only has one button (stupid), but i still like the idea of having a greater surface area to work with. i'm not really familiar with synaptics' newer trackpads, but the previous one i used was horrible - it registered quick finger taps as sudden swipes, sending the cursor flying in whatever direction it saw fit. my Dell D630 uses a pretty good trackpad/trackpoint combo, but again, i wish the surface area was bigger.

Too bad the max resolution of the M1330 is 1280x800 :( I would have jumped on it if it supports 1440 ...

    I got inspiron 1420 instead.

M1330 is sweet, but kinda overpriced for the same specs.

    I think 1280x800 is perfect, and I have a 15.4" screen.

    I think it'd be great on a 13.3" screen.

OK guys, calm down. Screen res is a personal preference, no reason to argue over it. I love 1330 and the res it offers, if I need more, I can always hook up external monitors.
