I just got my i9300 a few weeks ago and i just started to burn dvds and i was burning with roxio and i was only buring at 1x. I had 8x dvd media and the burner is 8x so i was wondering why it was so slow. i looked under the properties of my secondary ide channel and it was set for dma mode but when i looked at the properties of my dvd burner it was on pio mode and i read somewhere that pio is slow. also while i am burning a dvd my cpu is maxed out. does anyone have any ideas as to how i can change this setting or if they have the same problem. thanks in advance.

Since I haven't gotten any responses, I'm just going to ask if any one else has a dvd+-rw drive that is running in ipo mode. I have the sony drive. Here is how to check. Right click on My Computer->Properties->Click on the hardware tab->Device Manager->IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers->Right Click on Secondary IDE Channel->Properties->Advanced Settings. And if you could just post what it has for your current transfer mode I would greatly appericate it, Thanks

Ahh it should be set to DMA mode if avaliable... If your drive fails using DMA mode a few times it will auto set to IPO mode... That means you need to reset it. Just search on google setting dvd drive to DMA mode.

device 0 for primary and secondary ide should be set to auto detect (can't change) next part be use dma if avaliable

For device 1 for primary and secondary ide you should set those to none instead of autodetect... unless you happen to have a modular bay hard drive or something.

hey everyone just wanted to say thanks for the help and replys. I found a website that had a how to get back to dma mode. sounds like i used a couple bad cds or dvds and windows had set it to pio mode so all i had to do was do a regedit and delete something and it was fixed. so here is the link if any one else has any trouble http://www.michna.com/kb/WxDMA.htm. thanks again
