I just purchased a new computer and I got the Dell IR Remote. Is this an expresscard remote? Can someone post a pic of it so I can see what it looks like? They don't have a pic on the website. Thanks in advance.

Hmm, my post is of the remote that comes with XPS 1330 but I kinda thought it'd be same for inspirons. I guess I was wrong.

Yours is right, I was mistaken for the BlueTooth remote
-

Ahh, cool. Nifty gadget if you don't have a standard IR remote. My cell phone actually has a couple of little remote control programs which work via BT connection with the computer. It's better than nothing, I guess
-
So that means the new inspirons have an IR port? Does it only work with the remote, or can you use it with other devices like cellphones or PDAs
-
cool, thank you very much!

$1405 w/ taxes

Will this Dell IR Travel Remote work with an Inspiron e1505? Thanks.
-
According to Dell website :
This product is compatible with the following systems:
Inspiron 1420
Inspiron 1521
Inspiron 1720
Inspiron 1721 -
It doesn't work with the E1505. I tried it while I had mine here.

With which application this remote control can work? Windows Media Center, Windows Media Player, Winamp ??? Or only with Dell Media app?
-

Can I use the m1330 as a big universal remote to control stuff like my TV since the m1330 has IR.
If so does any one have any software to do this? -

As a word to the wise, be wary when you order this - the wrong picture came up in the configurator for me. I selected the Media Center Remote, but the picture was for the IR Travel remote! The place where it said "IR Travel Remote" had no picture associated. I asked the rep I spoke with, and we decided that the Media Center Remote must be the one that fits into the card slot.
Oops. So, I get this huge honking remote, not at all like the picture. It cost me 1.5 hrs on the phone, but I got them to send me the right remote for free, plus a refund of the difference. They didn't want to bother with an exchange, so I'm keeping the largely useless other remote, too.
Long story short: don't trust the pictures on the configuration tool to be accurate.
Note: last I checked, NO pictures were associated with the "Remotes and TV Tuner" tab on the configurator anymore. -
No you can not.

Please don't confuse people, with the BT remote especially,
This is the IR one:

It's already been explained that the original picture was for a BT remote, and not the IR remote.

XPS 1330 doesn't seem to react to either my phone IRDA or my HP Capshare IRDA. Seems the IRDA is for remote only. I would wonder how to activate it. Some people say this option should be in BIOS to enable IRDA or disable it, but I don't see there. I guess donge is tthe only option left. I have always been fan of IRDA, using since 1990s, it is reliable if connection in sight and also because it is secure.

I was wondering too, It does seem it's for the remote only since there's no IRDA adapter in the device manager
