    anyone know? Id like to look into what it would cost to purchase a new video card for my 640m. I looked on dells website and they seem to not offer video cards by themselves, i was looking for at least 256 mb.

    I'm not 100%, but I don't think the 640m has an upgradable card. I'm not sure though.

    any dell laptop with integrated graphics, cannot be upgraded, they use a different motherboard that has the graphics chip, and no video card slot, and the 640 has no other option than integrated, if your laptop had dedicated graphics, you can use any card available for that model, but you have to start with dedicated graphics period

    ah ****e, oh well. Didn't really care a whole lot about the vid card. Tobad one can't be made for the express slot. Now that would be a good product for companies ot make.

    that will be a long time coming, if anything of the like ever comes out, 1) the expresscard is only 1xpcie,vs 16xpcie video card slot,2) size, a mid to high end gpu with 256meg or more or ram isnt going to come in a dainty package, so you'll have this big hulking box to attatch to the side of your laptop and 3) wich is also fits with 2, is heat output, a chip powerful enough to be of any benefit is going to generate tons of heat, wich is going to require alot of cooling, wich adds to the size and weight of the card, and 4) power, the expresscard wont deliver enough juice to power a decent video chip, not to mention cooling and what not, so you would end up with a fairly large box, with its own fans and power supply, that plugs into the express slot, running at crippled speeds, due to the 1x interface, and anchored to a wall outlet, in the end it would cost as much, possibly more than a budget laptop, at least 400 bucks, more than likely a lot more, wouldnt perform that great, and wouldnt be portable, so dont hold your breath, if you want to game, build yourself a gaming desktop, you can cobble together a fairly potent rig for around 600 bucks, with a very wide upgrade path
