I apologize for the length. I just wanted to be thorough.

So I placed an order with Dell Wednesday morning. Then this morning (Thursday), in my inbox I received a coupon for 15% off any latitude. Those of you that are signed up for their outlet coupons saw this I'm sure.

Now...I ordered this by placing the item in a cart. Called them up. The guy on the phone captured the system for me. I had him send me a quote which was good for 24 hours (as it was an outlet system).
I looked into it. It was a pretty good deal. I called the same guy and ordered the system before the 24 hours was up. Then later that day someone told me that Dell would be sending out coupons the next day.

Now this is where I wasn't totally sure what to do. I did not call the guy back that I ordered the system through. Please let me know if this is something that I should have done.

I called the dell outlet line and just stayed on the line, didn't hit any keys until it rang the operator, they transferred me to someone. They said it wasn't possible except to return the system and then apply the coupon to a new purchase. I asked if there were any other options. No, of course. I asked to talk to a manager. The girl took awhile longer than she should have. It was another 5-10 minutes before she successfully transferred me to her manager. The manager's accent was a little hard to understand, quite obviously not a native speaker...which is fine as long as you can make do. Her name was Kathryn.

Kathryn said I had received the coupon because I ordered the system. I said okay, but very shortly after realized that wasn't possible. I had received the email on a different email account than I ever gave a dell person. I would have brought this up had they said they couldn't do anything, but Kathryn was nice enough and actually as soon as she was on the phone she said they would be able to submit a claim to possibly charge back to my account $90.

She said they would call Monday. Can I actually expect them to have placed the claim? and what's the possibility of it actually being approved? Should I call back the first guy I talked to, the guy that "sold me the system"?

Now that I'm thinking about it I should have requested an email confirmation of the request...anyway.

Interestingly do you think it is a coincidence, that you get a coupon the next day ? Also if you didnt give to dell, how can dell send you a coupon. Somewhere dell has your information, and it was sent .. isnt it possible ?? Like i checked all my mail accounts, i didnt get the coupon ? Why did they send it to ONLY YOU ?? I think we all deserve the coupon too .. So its basically your purchase that triggered the coupon, which also doesnt make sense, since its foolish on dell's part to send a coupon for a laptop purchase once you purchase a laptop. Maybe a coupon for cellphone etc would have made sense. Anyways i am looking forward to see the coupon. Though my experience with outlet is limited, i have bought from dell online not outlet. But bad that it is confusing, dell should handle this better. First sending the coupon itself is shady.

I know it's not possible because I had signed up to receive the coupons from the dell outlet. (On two different email accounts actually...by accident) However I did not sign up for the coupons on the email account that I actually ordered the computer with.
    To simplify.
email #1: Did not order computer through. Signed up for coupons.
email #2: Did not order computer through. Signed up for coupons.
email #3: Ordered computer through. Did not sign up for coupons.

I hope it gets resolved, but I will not be entirely torn up about it if nothing ever comes through.
