Please suggest on the basis of FEATURES, brand, quality, usability, look etc..

PLUS i always wanted to play latest new games but i could never because of my antique PC. So i would LOVE and i ll play latest games on it like Crysis, GTA4, NFS Hot pursuit and many many more..
So suggest on that basis too... like how smooth the gameplay ll be and heating issue etc etc etc

Also, I want to know which one is good enough to run games like call of GTA4, duty modern warfare2, dirt 2 or black ops ETC?

    Hi kamitorial,

    many thanks for replying.
Dear the warranty is same i.e. for one year. And the price difference is just a few hundred bucks (in dollars), but that is not bothering me, as it comes under my budget. But i have heard HP having heating issues and also screen (LED) issues that came with the pavillion dv 6000 series.. i am really scared to death because of that :(

P.S: Guys please help me decide this. I see many people viewing this therad but not replying. I would be grateful if some of you all help me out. It tooks me quite a few months to save bucks to buy my first laptop ever, therefore, i want to have the best...which should last 5 years atleast!

    Please suggest!

I don't have experience with either companies, but HP looks like it has better specs in almost every area, other than being a little thicker and missing a num pad, which I don't think is important, but it might be to you depending on your game.

If you do any image editing or anything similar, I would suggest a screen with a better resolution. My current laptop (15") has a similar resolution and I wish it was bigger, that's one thing I'll be sure to upgrade when I get a new system fairly soon.

Ok. But what about the "Horror stories" all over the internet about HP's serious heating issues and LCD issues? The youtube and google has all of it everywhere.. Has this been resolved or something?

P.S: I dont to photo editing or any such professional stuff!

Personally i wouldn't get the DV6 line of laptop, because their screen hinge design sucks and replacement after warranty is a PIA.

Also, the keyboard feel of the current inspiron is better than of the HP DV6.

in short: id go for the HP if u want to play games. the video card is more powerful and u have a faster harddrive.

the sites below shows the performance of the video cards in games
    HP video card
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 - Notebookcheck.net Tech

    Dell video card
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 550v - Notebookcheck.net Tech

    or

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 - Notebookcheck.net Tech

The 5650 is the clear winner here.

however, even though i would choose HP here, ive always preferred dell over hp. i think one of the things i hate about the HP laptop (not sure if ur getting the same laptop as my gf) but on her keyboard, she has a column of extra special keys on the right hand side. i'm not totally sure what they do but one looks like a printer button and one looks like a calculator button. anyways, everytime i go to hit "control" i always hit the calculator button since im so used to the cntrol button being there. but im sure ull get used to that and im sure ull be happier gaming with the HP, so go for it.

Neither of them are particularly great, but if you want to even consider playing a game like Crysis, take the HP. The 5650 isn't the fastest, but it's plenty for mid-level gaming, plus it's a decent overclocker. It's slightly faster than the 4650 (550v), and way better than the 5470.

Personally it all comes down to the warranty. Dell has the "complete care" which covers every damage to the laptop...it’s an expensive warranty but worth it if you plan on carrying it around with you or your just rough on your stuff. Also gaming hard on a laptop puts alot of strain on the hardware and can cause hardware failure.

HP in my personal opinion has a better overall quality, but dells are easier to work with.

IMO get the dell if you get the warranty and without the warranty go HP

For styling HP wins, Dells new look is the 1999 ibm thinkpad

Neither laptop is a great gaming platform. As far as gaming goes i would consider them equals.

Actually, they should both be great value gaming laptops. I have the n5010 with the 550v, it plays the games like Dirt 2, Civ V, Crysis, very well. I don't think there's any game it can't play well enough to interfere with the fun, which is the point of games anyway, right ?

Just from the graphics issue, the 5650 is a DX11 card, so Dx11 games may have some more eye candy then the 550v which is a DX10.1 card.

But I wouldn't pay much extra for DX11, but it might be worth $100 tops to someone else. As far as speed, the 550v is pretty close, they are both mid-range gpus that can play all games. Don't get the 5450 for gaming though.

I can tell you the n5010 is my favorite laptop that I've owned. I have the extra capacity battery and the i5, for the price it's great. I like the looks of it too. The HP might be just as good, I like HP stuff except their printers. But I don't have personal experience with the laptop you're considering.

For the same price, or less, you might be able to get a refurbished, or cancelled order, laptop throught Dell's Outlet Store, like an Alienware for example, that has a better graphics card, as well as, cpu.

Nice thing about Dell's you can look up their manuals to see if the cpu's are upgradeable, and how easy it is to do. That way you can get a lower end cpu now, in order to to get the better graphics now, and upgrade the cpu later.
