I have searched on the forums and found some help. But I really havent seen much dedicated topics with lots of answers. I ordered my i6000 with 128mb last week, i ordered it with the WSXGA screen. I am now considering trying to change my order to the WUXGA screen (if its not too late). I will be using the laptop for regular desktop applications, movies, and games. I know you can turn down the resolution to make the text bigger. So if a real nice screen that can display the best graphics possible, is what im looking for. Should i change to the WUXGA screen? What is the downside to the WUXGA screen compared to the WSXGA. Thank you guys sooo much!

I love WUXGA. The downside is text size which is smaller but you can set the resolution lower. Read the article above.

    Dell Inspiron 6000
    1.6 GHZ Centrino (Sonoma)
    WUXGA 15.4" WS
    512 MB RAM
    60 GB HD
    Wireless B/G
    DVD/CD-RW
    9 Cell Battery x 2
    Mozilla Firefox Browser

I'm facing the same decision. I'm no expert but here's what I've figured out so far...

The fact is that both screens are very hi-res. My 19 inch flat-panel has 1280 pixels across. The WUXGA crams 1900 pixels (across) onto a 15.4 inch screen. So the text is in fact going to be very small. Some people don't mind this at all and will gladly trade the text size for the ability to run a word processor and watch a movie at the same time.

Now, in theory you can turn down the resolution when you want to, but I'm not sold on this. On most LCD's this results in blurring, because there are a fixed number of pixels on the screen, and they have to "fake" a lower resolution. It's not like changing the resolution on a CRT. That being said, people have claimed that there is no noticable blurring with the WUXGA, I'd like to hear why not.

In terms of brightness and contrast, according to Dell there is no difference between the two (the WXGA screen is not as bright, apparently).

I guess my take on it is this...if you think you're going to wind up turing the resolution down to WSXGA a lot, I wouldn't go for the WUXGA screen. At WSXGA settings, it will actually provide inferior images to the WSXGA. However, if you're looking to run with all 2.3 million pixels of WUXGA glory, by all means drop the extra $50. I can only imagine what a DVD looks like at that kind of resolution! [ :D]

    Good luck!

What a great link, I've been looking for JUST thant kind of thing for quite a while. Thanks!

Further to what I said before, are you not bothered by any kind of distortion when you take the WUXGA out of its native resolution? If I turn down my resolution my LCD doesn't look great at all (Dell 19"). Of course, the WUXGA is much higher resolution than my montior.

Right now I'm leaning towards WSXGA, but I'm not sold yet.

Personally I will be using mine for programming so I want to be able to see the text very well. I ordered the WSXGA+.

    Any programmers using the WUXGA?

    Ordered:
    Inspiron 6000d
    1 GB RAM
    60GB 7,200 RPM
    128 MB X300
    15.4" WSXGA+

I am not personally bothered by screen resolution but I typically run it at WUXGA anyways. I have decreased resolution to see what it is like but I prefer the space of the desktop. You can also change the font size under Properties->Settings->Advanced->DPI Setting->Custom.

Changing the Font Size screws many programs, because the window sizes don't change, so some things aren't readable. I have a WUXGA, and I always run my desktop at native resolution. Don't let small text intimidiate you from getting a High Resolution screen, it does nto take long to adjust to the small text. Now, I think anything bigger than what I see is too big. If you decide to switch out your screen, here is a good tutorial.
