    Hello!!

I´m new in the froums, this is the greatest notebook forum on Internet!!. I really need help, please!!. I´ve received a brand new Dell Inspiron 6000. Here is the specs:

    Dell Inspiron 6000
    Intel Pentium M 740 1.73 GHz
    100 Gb Hard Disk
    1 GB Ram
    ATI Radeon X300
    CD/DVD Burner
    BIOS A09 28/09/2005

I´ve formatted and did a clean install of Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2, as you guys/girls recommended here. I didn´t received any drivers CD from Dell, so I´ve downloaded some from Dell and save the folder C:drivers. So, I´ve installed all the drivers and everything seems to be all rigth. So what is my problem:

The processor is a Pentium M 740 and supose to work at 1.73 GHz. Well, this is my problem. The processor works all the time at very low speeds, like 300 MHz, 400 MHz .. and the computer is slow. I have the Intel Processor ID Utility and CPUSpeed and they both reported very low speeds all the time. Also, windows reported very low speeds. I mean, not only what windows or other programs reported, the computer is slow.

I didn´t installed Dell QuickSet yet, maybe this is causing the problem??

PLEASE I NEED YOUR HELP!!! I´M DESPERATE!!

    THANKS,

    Yamil

My suggestion would be get quickset and them move the power to max performance.

My i9300 always goes down to 795mhz even though it's a 2ghz cpu. Whenever an app opens up, it always goes back up to 2ghz when needed. I think this has definitely has to do with a power setting, because the computer does that to save power. In my 9300, I have no setting in the QuickSet for the CPU, but follow USAF's advice and see if it's in your 6000.

The setting will be for the power setting. It will control how your computer operates on AC and on battery. I have both set on performance.

the processor should not go down to 300 or 400. i believe the floor is 800 and then jumps incrementally as needed. where are you getting readings of 300/400?

THANKS A LOT GUYS. I´ve installed Dell QuickSet and the problem got solved. Dell QuickSet don´t have any option to set the processor speed, but for sure the program install some drivers /controllers related to power management.

    THANKS EVERYBODY!!! :centrino:
