Hello! Recently my Dell Inspiron 9100 has been having difficulties with audio... Whenever I plug my headphones or any speakers into the laptop the sounds seems very low and distant or there's a buzz. The internal speakers, however, sounds just fine... I attempted to fix the problem by checking the volume levels and balances and even did a system restore but to no avail. The Middle Eastern man I spoke with when contacting Dell told me I probably needed a new motherboard. This seems a little extreme, any suggestions? Thank you!!!!!

Well there has to be something wrong with the actual line out port (headphone port) if the internal speaker is working fine. Replacing the card and not the motherboard would be want you want to do, you might want to think about buying a sound card that goes into the PCMCIA card slot instead of shipping the notebook back and having Dell charge you to replace a motherboard that doesn't need replacing, check out this card

It's kinda pricey, but offers awesome sound via speakers/headphones if you wish.
