Hey guys i just did a clean install on my inspiron 1520 and have a couple of problems..

    1) media direct isn't working... when i try to boot it by pressing the media direct button on startup i get a NTLDR file is missing message

    2) the scroll up/down and left/right on my touchpad aren't working at all..

im sure these 2 issues are easily he resolved if someone more knowledgeable could just point me in the right direction ;)

other than that im really glad i did a clean install

You need to INSTALL media direct FIRST before you install vista. Then after you have installed Vista or XP, then reinsert the media direct cd and install it again while in windows.

    2. you need the mousepad drivers which you can download from the support site of dell.com, or you can find them on your DRIVERS cd that came with your computer.

thanks for the quick replies. the touchpad issue is resolved.

as far as the media direct issue i DID install media direct FIRST prior to installing vista.. then installed vista.. then intstalled media direct again.. so now what should i do since its still not working properly?

how useful do you guys find media direct.. im thinking about just uninstalling the whole thing..

MediaDirect sounds like it'd be a useful feature, but I don't really think it is. If you're like me and tend to put the computer in sleep mode or hibernate instead of doing a shutdown, it's just as fast to resume windows and use windows media player as it is to boot up mediadirect. I used it once, struck me as kind of a cool feature, but then I deleted it and the recovery partition and got my space back.

Media direct is good when you are on a long flight and pop dvd in to watch movies. It save me a hassle of turning on my whole system to watch or listen to music. I said it's worth small space it takes up, if you ever get it working.
