I know absolutely zero about anything to do with hardware replacement, diagnostics, etc. I put the SD card from my camera into the DVD drive in the dark by accident. Now, can't get the SD card out and whenever I try to load a DVD it will not go in. When I asked my local computer repair people I was told most likely only solution is to replace the DVD drive. They want to charge a minimum of two hours labor.
Questions: Is this a tough thing to do for someone who knows nothing and dreads the though of taking off the back cover?
Any good choices at a medium price range for a replacement DVD drive??? :(

you should be able to remove the drive and extract the sd card.

It is a bit of work but the compete tear down guide is available on Dells website.

    Dell Manuals

just take your time, and keep track of the screws.

i've had to do this more times that i care to mention at work and you should not need a new dvd drive

you should be able to take out your current dvd drive and may have to partially open it to let the sd card slide out, but it is very easy to get the sd card out once you get the drive out of the laptop
