Problem with HDD (120GB 5400rpm) on my Inspiron 1521. The used space is bigger and bigger (I do not install or download nothing but the used space is smaller every time I check). It`s about 10 GB smaller.

    Please help.

    Urgently!!!!!!

Calm down, it's not that bad.

The space is being used by the Windows' System Restore program. It is saving registry backups in case of system failure.

You can try running the "disk cleanup" utility" (type "clean" @ the stat button) and go to the MORE OPTIONS tab. Delete the system restore points.

Do you have system restore turned on in Vista? If so this is a feature that uses up space to allow you to backup to a point in time prior to when a problem may have occured. If you have Vista, and 10 gigs is not unheard of usage. You can adjust these settings under the control panel. If this is not a Vista system then I'd worry.

    It will fluctuate in Vista.

    Deleting/Defragging/rebooting helped in my case.

There's a great program you should try called WinStatDir ( http://windirstat.info). It takes a second to download and it will basically analyze your hard drive and tell you where your disk space is being used the most.
