I need help with my e1405. i cant figure out why its acting the way it does.
every time i press the volume up or down button (one of those hot keys on the front of the system) my system freezes up! its killing me! i bought this brand new system, im told its supposed ot be so fast, and here it is freezing up on me. i uninstalled quickset then reinstalled it. i also uninstalled alll of my driveres and reinstalled them just liek dell tech support said. its still freezes up my system tho. i have bit defender pro 9, its a firewall, top of the line. i think it may be the firewall causing it to freeze, but it shouldnt be doing that. can anyone help me pleeeeeeeeaseee![]()

Does changing the volume by clicking on the icon in the system tray do the same thing?
If you haven't done so already, I would probably format that machine to get off all the junk. Even if you uninstalled it all, some stuff will still be left behind. Best off doing that before you run into any more trouble. Check the format guide stickied at the top of this forum.
If that doesn't fix your problem, then look for a BIOS upgrade for your E1405. I don't own a Dell laptop so I couldn't fill you in more about his, but perhaps a member who does can. -
i already reformated, and using the tray to up my volume, does not freeze. i guess i will look up a bios upgrade now... i just uninstalled my firewall, and thought maybe that was why it was slowing down. but that wasnt the case. there is now nothing blocking it, i dont know why in the world its being like this. if anyone else can think of anything, please help me

I would also try a Windows Update - Start, All Programs, Windows Update (do a Custom scan) - and see if it finds any new drivers for your system. It sounds like you are having a firmware issue, but it's worth a go anyway.
Can you get any audio at all out of your system? Try this:
Start, Run, type services.msc and hit Enter, and scroll down to the service called "Windows Audio", and make sure it is running. If not, the right click it, Properties, and set the startup type to Automatic and hit Start. -
what exactly is firmware?
the windows audio says its "started" -

Firmware is hardware-level programming. In other words, your BIOS.

alright ill see if i can get a bios upgrade, i suppose it probably cant hurt...
-
It turns out my bios is the latest one. dell upgraded not to long ago, and i bought my laptop very recently, its not even a week old yet.

I don't have that issue at all. Have you tried uninstalling Dell Quickset and reinstalling it?
-
yes i did, thats what dell tech support told me to do too.i tried as many options as i could think off
i honestly have no idea why its doing this.
believe it or not im pretty tech savy. im praying now its not a physical issue, cuz that will be reallly bad... -
