Hello everyone!!! I just got my new Inspiron e1705 yesterday. As everyone knows I have a whole bunch of garbage software on it. What is the best way to remove this software? Is it better to just reload the operating system? I do like some software like the Dell Media Experience. But I hate others like the McAfee Security Center with everything in it. I coudn't uninstall that particular programm. Called Dell about it. They couldn't help me (only for a fee). So I found a way to uninstall it on the internet. I removed a file with an .asf extension (I think this was the extension). Now I get a funny message every time I reboot. Here is what the messages say:
"Some McAfee Security Center components might not have been installed or launched properly. Restart your computer to fix this. If this message appears again after restart, please reinstall McAfee Security Center." Then another message appears, also about a component of McAfee. What I also did is I decided to reinstall the operating system from the recovery cd that I got. I saw that I had 3 partitions. One partition was about 40+ megabytes, the other was about 4 gigs, and the last one was about 90 Gigs. Why is this? Does anyone know how I could fix my problems? The last problem I am having is that a program called Daemon Tools (virtual drive program) is not installing correctly and is refusing to run a game that I have (the Godfather). I really want my computer to start working normal. Thank you in advance.

reformat your computer. wipe the os clean entirely, repartition your hard drive, and reinstall your os.

the problem with daemon tools and the godfather is probably unrelated though and will require some research. a lot of games blacklist daemon tools because they want you to have the cd in the tray when you play the game, to avoid piracy

If u are looking for an emulation program, you might also want to try Alcohol 120%.

EDIT: If you DONT want to reformat -- (which you should do because its the best way), take a look at this link.

but that's the thing, they have a special partition for the media center buttons (on the outside of the comp to work) I don't want to touch that. How do I repartition the hard drive? I mean what are the partition sizes and which partitions do I leave alone?

you shouldn't need to repartition the drive, unless the dell recovery cd is crap.

in the windows install, you just delete the 90 gig one, and then create a new one. it will rewrite the MBR but won't touch the other partitions. I have no idea what they're there for though.

After reformatting the partition and reinstalling the operating system, will I be able to get the Media Center experience program and some other programs that are installed by Dell if I want?

You can repair the MBR to enable the Media Center again. The utility is available for download from Dell.
