    Hello everyone,

I'm a poor college student in Canada, and I am looking to purchase a Dell M1330. For some reason, I see a lot of people getting it for a lot less, and mine always comes up to like $2000+. This is basically going to use up most of the money I earned this summer, so I'm trying to save as much as possible.

I already called once and the sales rep gave me a $100 off of a 2200$ system.

I'm asking everyone to do be a huge favour, is if they've purchased a Dell for a good price (M1330 or Inspiron 1420) if they could please PM me their order number, so I can call the rep and try to price match it (My friend did it before)

Here are the approximate specs I'm looking for, doesn't have to be exact..

    Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 (2.0 ghz)
    Tuxedo Mask :)
    LED w/ VGA Camera
    2gb Ram
    120g or 160g (5400 or 7200rpm) --Doesn't matter
    Geforce 8400M GS
    DVD Burner
    Dell Wireless N
    Bluetooth
    3 year warranty
Travel Remote thing (Should be $0 upgrade)

Doesn't matter if your system is not exactly the same, I'll try to work something out with the sales rep. Thank you everyone in advance!

Mine was like $2100 with that config (160g, 7200 RPM hd) but no warranty, so I don't think you're going to get much better.

Yeah.. the inspiron 1420 is alot cheaper and you can get it with the same graphics card. Also, you probably already did the conversions or looked at the right numbers but just in case, most of the prices you'll see people talking about on this forum are going to be USD.

Check whether there are any university discount programs.
A recent thread : Does anyone know if Canadian students get university discounts?

If you want an ultra portable but don’t want to spend a small fortune, then check out the XPS M1210. It is old, but still packs a punch. Except for the graphics card it competes pretty well against M1330.

The M1210 is cool, but it's discontinued on the Dell Canada website and also the screen is a tad too small for me :(

I agree with what some people said. If your low on cash, get something that you can afford first. Get the Vostro series. You can get a pretty good laptop for under 1 k.

    The M1210 conversation again!!! EEEEEEch!!!

So first off, go to the proper forum and fill out the appropriate form for everyone to know exactly what you need; they will then jump in with lots of expert advise!!

Next, are you looking for 2000 plus taxes so roughly 2300-2400???

    Cash or financing??

Next, can you wait? As most Canadian buyers of the M1330 now know there was a rash of cancellations today wich Dell states they are trying to fix presently. It is poss however that school will start before you get the system.

Depending on what happens in the next few days, a system such as that you are seeking can be had for the price you are looking....I would guess.

What part of Ontario are you in by the way??

Wow That's a very good price then, i can afford that, would you be able to send me the specs and order # when you have time so I could price match it

Thanks!! 2100$ after tax is very good with the 7200rpm, yours looks fully loaded, the one i made was around $2400 CDN after tax.

Ummmm I just dont think your getting that now... You need to hit the Dell promotions of which there arent any that will get you down to that price right now.

Oh Yes!!! I forgot!!! We are in the middle of the Dell Canada Delayed Delivery Event!!!!

Yeah they're not going to price match it. I got it with a coupon promotion which they discontinued half way through due to high popularity...

Ohh i see i see, thanks for the replies. Flamenko, I remember you from Redflagdeals, you bought that 50% off coupon or something haha =)

I've been doing research for the past 1-2 months, and I really love this laptop :( I figured, I'd rather spend 300-400$ more for something I really like, then to save the money and get something I won't like as much.

And I need a good one, because I'm giving my Desktop to my dad, so I'll be using this one for everything.

I was also thinking about the T61 top seller model, similar specs.

Flamenko, I live in Vancouver :O and yeah, I'm basically a filthy scrub drowning in student loans. But I need a new computer/laptop, cause my desktop is getting wonky.

    Hey, thanks for helping!

I'm looking to spend ~$2150 altogether (after taxes, etc)

I basically want most of the stuff I listed in my first post. I'm not going to add the 160gb 7200rpm HD since it's +200, and no fingerprint reader. But I would like most of the other good stuff.

I am going to be paying in cash, my summer savings :(
And yes I can wait, I am very patient =)

What if you configure with 1GB RAM and do an after market upgrade? That usually saves a considerable amount. Same goes for the HDD.

I tried calculating that as well, but I'll be paying for parts I'm not going to use, and paying more for the new parts. If I get 1 gb of ram, and do a 2gb after market upgrade, i'll have 2x512 ram sticks sitting around =\

Dunno, do you or anyone else know if there's going to be a good back to school sale?

i think i'll look into getting the Inspiron 1420. The stupid thing is the Canada site doesn't have half as many options as the US site, sucks =\

Getting 2 GB off NCIX Canada is under 130 ( http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=24612&vpn=OCZ2M8002GK&manufacture=OCZ%20Technology)

The upgrade on the US site is 150 USD from 1 GB to 2 GB, and buying 2 GB off Newegg is ~70 USD. So I'd imagine you'd save around 200 Canadian by buying your own RAM... plus you could probably sell that 1 GB you get on ebay/here/some computer forum for maybe 50 bucks.

I don't know if Dell Canada has an outlet, you could try that to see if there's anything you like.

if you need the XPSM1330 by september you should order asap... i ordered beginning of july and my estimate delivery date is end of august ><

grr i planned to order the day AFTER that discontinued the 15% discount on the M1330...

if your short on cash, like everybody else has said, i would aim for an inspiron

Yeah, I made another thread on the "What notebook should i get?" Forum.

I'm deciding between a Lenovo T61 and an Inspiron 1420, both similar specs to the M1330, and both priced at around $1600 CDN. the Lenovo, my sister is getting me a good price on, cause she works in sales for a computer company. But yeah, I heard the T61 has bad battery life, so I wanna get the 1420 instead

I'm waiting until the 27th, until the back to school discounts come out, see what happens =)
