    Hi everyone,

My ethernet stopped working out of the blue today. I can't connect through my modem, or to another computer through a network cable. But the weird thing is that when I plug the cable in, the little network light on my modem does go on. I also can't find the ethernet in the device manager.

    Please help!

    Shraga

right click on 'My Computer', select 'Manage'. Go to Device Manger and make sure that Network Adapters exist in the listing.

now go to your start menu and select 'Run...', type in cmd and hit enter. now type in ipconfig and hit enter. what does it say?

go to your Control Panels folder and Network Connections. right click your Local Area Connection and select disable, after it disables, right click on it and select Connect.

BTW, how are you connected online, through a router or straight to the cable modem?

navigate back to the Network Connections window and select 'Create a New Connection' on the left hand side. now follow the prompts. are you using a cable or DSL connection?

I created a new connection, and it shows up under "Broadband". Still no Local Area Connection.

    I'll try the bios.

ok, it's fixed. I remembered that the d630 has a "feature" that turns off the NIC when on battery, but which turns it back on when plugged in. So I thought maybe something went wrong with that. I turned off the feature and rebooted, and voila, everything works. Thanks a ton for your help, guys!
