Is i7-720m processor is outdated now a days (as I read in 1 topic of this forum), i540M is better choise or i720M is OK.

- Is 500GB 7200 RPM better to choose or 500GB 5400 RPM. (Heating issue)

- Is 6 cell battery OK or 9 cell should be good choice.

- Is "Integrated CREATIVE Sound Blaster(R) X-Fi MB Audio Software Solution" should be taken which effect Audio or it's just a software which works as "SRS Surround addon for WMP".

- Is "ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5470 - 1GB" good enough for latest gaming needs.

Pls reply your expert openion ASAP. Tomorrow I planned to "transfer money to dell" & "Finalize the order" or I should wait some days (1-2 weeks)

- Is there any chance of price to be down of i7-720M model.as Dell continuously offering latest processor (i3-330 replaced by i3-370, i5-430 by i5-450, i7-720 by i7-740)

 

The 5470 ATI card may not be the best card for current games. For Video editing the i7 is more than enough.With the 1080p display the card will struggle more for playing games at native resolution.

Adding 2 more GB as in 4GB+2GB(total 6GB) might be beneficial for overall performance.

 

If you are into hardcore gaming, will suggest to drop ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5470 - 1GB.

you can move to higher series or other laptops

 

720qm is fine. That one assertion never got backed up.
7200rpm vs 5400rpm, heat isn't a huge issue.
9-cell is more power and raises the back so airflow gets better. on the downside, it's harder to find a sleeve that fits well.
x-fi is a waste
4570 seems to be better than the 5470, but you might have to look at the outlet for it.
720qm wont get cheaper, it just wont be offered anymore.

Got some info by the link you posted.

1-
1. Race Driver : GRID - Plays at nice frame rate.[Radeon X1300 or above]
2. DIRT 2 - need to really lower the settings to play.[Radeon X1550]
3. GTA 4 - failed to play...

2-
Well cannot say anything for that, but 5470 failed the Game-o-meter for AC2. Also checked some forums, 4570 also runs GTA4 which is running jerky on 5470. Which really disappointed....

3-
Since the 5470 is the weak link in the 5xxx series. But somehow it got 98th. Notebookcheck: Mobile Graphics Cards - Benchmark List

Will be trying some more games and benchmark to see where it dies.I think the HD4570 + i5 CPU will be quite the beast.

This is not a gaming laptop, per se. The 5470 is a decent GPU for everyday tasks and it will play most games fine, albeit at either lower frame rate or with lower graphical settings. If anyone is looking for a hardcore or moderately powerful gaming laptop, then I would suggest looking at a different line. Overall, the Studio 1558 is a good laptop for games just don't expect gaming nirvana.

That right dell is with ATI5470 Video/graphic card by default now.In XPS series it is different. The link explain a lot more: After passing the minimum also card fails all....

i had constantly read all the the threads and replies posted related to ATI HD 5470, some are advising dell to drop it and some are even suggesting which model to place. guys tell me one thing do you think such big company is just a bunch of idiots , nothing more, consider for a second why dell has only preffered to use hd 5470 in indian edition of their laptop, i mean they don't even make a cent out of it, whenever a company big as dell places a specification on their website's menu card , it's not just they had dreamt about and placed it next day when they get to their office.
their is a sequential process involved in selecting every single part of laptop/notebook. thousand's of employees are put to work whenever they had to release a new or upgraded configuration. and you know what those employes do, first they check the report that came directly from users using hd 5470, then their feedback, then they check the atmosphere conditions of the country, then the stage of advancement of technology of the country is been scanned, then another sources like forums database all around the internet are checked one by one continuosly, then a primary report is prepared and send to manufacturing cell. then the report is reviewed 10 times approx. and after this painfull task a finalised version is prepared which leads to the selection of graphics card and the same above written procedure is followed to maintain standards in selection of other parts.
it is not wise to write like "dell should drop this model, should drop that model, so will i think to buy". if all people think like medeocars like these technology and its users will get to a stand off and there will be no development

 

i am myself a user of dell lappy 1558 with ati mobility radeon hd 5470 and my point of view is it is fine no excellent and highest available grahic card in INDIA. so if a person which lives in india has to buy a laptop, with the highest available configuration it would be the top most model.

 

Well buddy.... You really got that. But if someone is going for new one and that too with nice amount pack. Then the best is the only case and hence the posts. Their is nothing as such bad in the dell laptop or graphics card. But It will give a real pain in a** when you really see the game graphics like old days. I am also having the same rig, but the concerns that I am facing is to how to play some games at nice setting. In that setting the series 5 is lagging behind.
