I was wondering if I had speakers I bought from best buy or something that work with my desktop computer, is it possible to use them on my laptop. I recently ordered an E1705 from dell and haven't received the laptop yet, so I can't try it out.
But I'm wondering if it's possible to hook up seperate speakers to the laptop so it would sound better for gaming etc... Help, thanks.

Of course. You'll just use the line out jack.
For gaming, consider Headphones.
I have a set of Klipsch Promedia 2.1 speakers (~$99?) and they sound great.
For gaming I use headphones so I can tell which side people are trying to sneak up on me from.
Headphones and computer speakers use a 1/8" mini jack. -
Just out of the box, the E1705's speakers are excellent. You can turn it up very high and the sound quality is very good. I played songs on there and they sound better than on my desktop with speakers. Of course, one can always go above and beyond.

Iron Eagle. Which speakers did you put on the E1705. For some reason I missed the Sound blaster Audigy upgrade for just 22 dollars when I was customizing it, and so I hope it wasn't that big of a deal. It would have been nice if I did that though.
As for the speakers, I will probably use a headset as well, but I just wanted to make sure I can plug in my speakers because for the moment, the laptop is somewhat of a desktop replacement. -
I'm pretty sure I got the basic "Integrated Audio" option. Sorry I can't confirm this right now as I don't have my E1705 with me. For me, the speakers were much better than those that accompany my desktop. Your standards might be different though, as you may have experienced speakers with better quality.
I'd say just wait until you get your machine and see for yourself if there is a need to get additional speakers. Enjoy your new machine! -
The Audigy thing was just software. I doubt you're missing anything.
The built in speakers are good, but, they are still built in speakers, you are not going to want to listen to music and game with them.
They are awesome for podcasts and streaming video, and music in a pinch. -
Yeah I was just comparing them to my very old Compaq. Of course they're not going to be on par with nice surround sound speakers that you'll want while you're watching a movie or something. If that's what you want, you might need speakers. Then again, if you use a nice set of earphones for gaming you might be okay too.
