I just bought a Dell Inspiron 1501 about 6 weeks ago. It runs ok, with one major exception.
The internal speakers make a "popping/clicking" sound when I am playing music.
I've tried listening with my headphones and the sound carries over to them as well (although, not quite as bad). It's alomst like the sound you would hear on a worn-out vinyl recording. Weird.
Now, I know I have a "bottom of the barrel" little notebook here, and I'm certainly not expecting audiophile sound, but this seems a bit silly.
Has anyone else here had this problem, and were you able to fix it yourself, or did you have to send it back to Dell?(I'd really like to avoid that if at all possible.)

Go to Dell support site and download the newest ATI graphics drivers...
That will fix it... I had the same problem.
