Just wondering is dell going to build a 17" version of the XPS M1530, because they have a 13", a 15" and no 17". I looked at the XPS m1730 2 days ago I was no impressed it is way to big. I just want slim 17". NO APPLE OR HP!

i really wouldn't count on it. the 1730 is an extreme gaming computer, thus it has to be fat. Thats what most of the gaming market for laptops wants is a 17", and it has to be fat to fit those chunky graphics cards and their cooling systems. The m1530 isn't really a hard core gaming laptop thus it can be lighter and thinner, but i don't think dell will make a middle of the line 17" just because the demand for one isn't there for a thin 17".

I don't understand the point of one...You have a think laptop to make it more portable, but at 17" whether it is .5" thick or 2.0" thick, its still a beast to carry around.

It'd be nice, but I sure hope if hey went that route they'd put something better than an 8600 GS in there. =P I don't think they will though. I think Dell is more likely to come out with another 15" XPS that appeals more to gamers, similar to the Alienware m15X

They already have a 17" XPS and there won't be another one...

And don't expect a SLI notebook to be slim like the 13" or 15" XPS models.

I don't want SLI, I just want cool high end single card slim notebook, and really dell made a mistake they came up with 2 conflicting models in there own lineup, like the M17X and the M1730, GM the car maker does this a lot and look at them. Well then I guess Dell XPS 1530 it is, then my desktop for gaming.

Thin is in! XPS is no longer for gaming and it is only a matter of time they release 17 inch version of M1330 design. For gamers, it is Alienware all the way!

I think Dell did make a mistake in the model numbering. The M1730 sounds like it would be similar to the M1330 and M1530... but it's not. So if they ever do want to make a 17" version of the M1530, they'll have to deal with that naming dilemma.

For now... have you looked at Asus? They have a few relatively thin and stylish 17-inchers.

I'd say that generally, those looking into a 17" laptop are into gaming, obviously due to their screen size and more room for higher performing components. An m1330/m1530 based 17" XPS Model would be a mistake IMO.

Really? You'd better let HP, Apple, Gateway, and Sony know about that... since they all make 17" laptops that aren't very gaming oriented, or in any case offer no gaming advantages except for the screen size over plenty of 15" laptops.

Yeah. The whole point to the XPS M1330/1530 is that they are typically more portable then the competition(or in the 1530's case, its own consumer variant) while being just as capable, if not more so... There really isnt much point in spending money developing an ultra-light 17" laptop simply cause... well, the nature of a 17" laptop is to be a desktop replacement. It isnt the kinda laptop you slip out of your bag and use at a coffee shop, or carry on you day-to-day.
