Ok well I don't know what to do. Here is the problem

I have noticed some bigtime issues with my DVD Burner. I have seen an almost obscene slow down in its all around speed, especially when burning or playing games.

First off I have the E1705 and the Sony DVD+-RW DW-Q58 Burner. I can't find any driver upgrades on Dell's website anywhere. I tried burning a regular Music CD the other day, 35 minutes!, used to take me 10 at the most! Using DVD Shrink, forget about it, takes me an hour to burn a DVD, which usually it takes me around 30ish (with copy and then burn)

I have a couple of questions for you guys:

    1) Do you think the drive is shot?
    2) If No on 1 is it a firmware or driver issue
    3) Is there some other issue.
    4) I have noticed a decrease in BF2 all of the sudden (Artiller strike i used to be able to snipe through, now it chugs when I scope through an arty strike) is this Drive the cause of this issue or is my Video card taking a dive too?

    Thanks Everyone

Try some differnet discs, make sure DMA is enabled and if needed delete the ide drivers. Windows will re-install them when re-booted.

If it's still under warranty, simply call Dell and they send you a new one. I had a defective Toshiba burner (it was as loud as a Jambo Jet!) and they sent me an NEC instead.
