Hi everyone, I have recently had the blue screen NMI Memory parity erro on my XPS M1710, and Dell replaced the video card as a possible remedy. So it has been working fine for about 3 weeks now, but I have noticed under both device manager and dxdiag, that for video/display it reads Geforce Go 7900 GS. The thing is it should read 7900 GTX, because that is what I ordered with the system. I am currently using Nvidia's 84.63 driver that I downloaded directly from their site, but have also used the latest driver on Dell's downloads site. I contacted Dell thinking maybe the wrong card was put into my system when the old card was replaced. The response I was given from the tech was that all was fine and that it was the driver that caused it to read as such and that I still have my 7900 GTX. Im pretty sure in the past I recall seeing it read as a 7900 GTX under device manager and dxdiag. So I guess my question is: Is what the tech said true, or is it possible that I do indeed have a downgraded card from my original purchase? Im just a little worried here that I may have the wrong card and just want to settle the issue so I can quit worrying lol.

i'd bust out the card and take a look. nothing beats that (unless there is nothing printed on it).

probably not unless dell uses modified drivers that unlocks pipelines (such as ATI's omega drivers that are not official)

I say call them and tell them to make it right or make them tell you where the drivers are then that makes it look like a GTX

Why bother with it? As long as your 3D performance is just like it was before, then it's the same, who cares what it says. But if it's that much of a worry, then return it and tell em to fix it.

If they replaced the video card then you really do need to be suspect. Run a 3dMark05 and 3dMark06 test, tell us the score. Opening the notebook would be another good choice if you are comfortable with it. Also, download and run RivaTuner as that should (hopefully) be more accurate.

I'd certainly find out if they screwed up, because if they did you got shorted.

I really would like to open it just to be sure but am quite afraid of doing that to be sure. Im about 90 % sure that it read GTX under both device manager and dxdiag before the replacement. I dont currently have any games installed atm but I will run a 3d mark and give you the results.

Well according to RivaTuner its a Geforce 7900 GS, I thought I still had 3DMark's 05 and 06 but I am having to re-download them, so I will post those results as soon as I can.

Does it say how many pipelines are open? I think the 7900GS and GTX had a different number but I am not sure.
