Im curious, is it possible for a fee that you can buy an X1400 card from dell to insert into an E1505 to upgrade from the X1300 card and still have it all work with the warranty?

Since the 1400 card is offered for the 1505, you can upgrade to it. Your warranty won't be voided, but your new card and any problems that occur from it will not be covered.

even if i manage to buy it from dell somehow, like talk to the right support person. I could have sworn I read someone doing this somewhere else

That's what I said. You can upgrade to any card that is specifically offered for your laptop. In other words, you can get any card that is available for the E1505 right now and in the future, but don't try to put a nVidia 7800 go or something in it.
In order to do video card upgrades, you have to have BIOS support, so this is why you have to stay with cards for your specific laptop.
Your warranty will be good except it won't cover your new video card. If any problems occur and Dell determines it is not related to your laptop, they'll pay to have it fix. Yet if your card breaks or causes problems, you'll have to pay for it.
