Didn't you make a thread on this already, or is it just me.

And you can upgrade as long as the BIOs and motherboard socket allows it.

It would cost about $250+ shipping for the processor, and you'd have to install it yourself. There should be guides floating around on the internet.

Prices would depend on where you buy it... You could scrounge around on eBay hoping for a working pull (though they won't come for a while seeing as these laptops are fairly new) or you could buy one directly from an Intel reseller like NCIX.com. Once you do that you can look at Dell's support website and read the service manual for the i1520 where they give you nice pictures telling you how to do it.

Just be forwarned that it will probably void your warranty and if you have to a Depot warranty it might end up being replaced with your current chip (Dell would end up keeping your 2Ghz chip)... So factor that in if you dumped money on a beefy warranty OR your warranty isn't near exhausted.

you can upgrade all the way up to the x7900 extreme 2.8ghz processor (which is not really out yet)

perhaps you may be able to update to the santa rosa refresh too but i don't know if they are changing to a new socket with that, that may be.

right now you can update to the t7100/t7300/t7500/t7700/x7800/perhaps the x7900

No, unless you buy the processor from them. I doubt they provide aftermarket upgrades.

I see a lot of these questions. No company that I am awaire of will install aftermarket items on their systems. They will want you to buy a new one or have spent the extra money at the time to upgrade it what you bought it. CPU's are not for the faint of heart to replace. You will need to completly tear the system down in order to do this. This WILL void your warranty. Granted, a tech will have to prove it. If you ever call them and use the Dell Connect, the tech is supposed to double check the system config for things like this. Granted I never did unless it was a cpu or memory problem.

As long as it's Socket P and that there is an available BIOs that allows it.

As far as I know there is no BIOS for the 1520 that can handle it. Plus, Inspirons have heat issues as it is... why would you want to through more heat into it?

i would love to have the 2.4 or even 2.66ghz processor in my lappy, then i would be able to compete with my cousins stupid, sleek ,elegant, and simple MBP.

if i throttle the core...back to 39% of maximum frequency,
( i do this already) shouldn't that keep the heat down as well?

how much performance increase (gaming) would i see with the extra 400-600mhz? (really thinking on this),

    anyone?

The graphics card would likely be the most limiting factor for gaming, although I guess it really depends on the game itself. Some games are CPU reliant, and some are GPU reliant.

i also have a 1.5 c2d 1520 inspiron....i was wanting to up to a t7300, but so far i don't feel the need to spend $250+ and currently the 1.5 is sufficient. (so far i'm playing madden 08, bioshock, MOH airborne.

My question is can we expect the price of t7xx to drop in price anytime soon? When could I expect to get a good deal on these?

note that T7100-7700 has thermal design power of 35W while T7800-7900 44W.
