Hokay, here's the earf, iz round.

    lol.

Okay guys. I'm in a predicament I have 3000 to blow on an XPS Laptop M1710.

However, I'm not dumb, and I know in general when Christmas is done with businesses start handing out bargains like crazy. Mostly because of overstocking and low demand. But from I understand of Dell is that they have an accounting and production practice of sorts called Just In Time. It pertains to inventory. The method results in trying to achieve low amounts of inventory at the end of a business day or accounting period (1st qtr, 2nd qtr, and etc), ideally it would be zero left over inventory. This is in part due to the fact that as a business model of production, each product is "unique" because generally the customer makes it "unique". So demand is near the level of in production inventory. So little inventory is left over at the end of the period.

Do you think in all honesty, that prices will drop for the XPS M1710? Furthermore, by how much? Just a rough estimate should suffice.

    Or

Should I go the Ebay stalking route?

I find on Ebay some great deals, but the issue I have is the sound and face plate.

I can come to terms with the face plate (I really don't like red though). Though many times the speakers are the integrated stock kind, and as is I'm a audiophile, as my desktop contains a top of line graphics card and audio card as well.

You may want to take note that the Sound Blaster option is only software & not hardware for the M1710...

The following are the 2 options offered that is quoted from the Dell website:

    Integrated Audio [Included in Price]
Integrated Sound Blaster® Audigy™ HD Software Edition [add $25 or 1/month1]

As I have said the Sound Blaster is just a software that is installed to make the sound "sound better."

Even if you buy your M1710 without this Sound Blaster option, you can easily purchase it from the Creative website.

So it's not a hardware thing? So the sound card built inside is the same regardless of software changes?

Friggin awesome. Hmm that's 25 bucks cheaper.

I too would like an answer to this man's question. Getting a new laptop in January, and it's a straight choice between Dell's Inspiron range, Toshiba's Satellite, and HP's Pavilion. While I'm confident in some good Toshiba and HP deals, can I reasonably expect to see Dell offer much by way of price discounts in the new year?

XPS if their flagship. It is not likely they will give any huge breaks.

It is in the companies best interest to milk everything out of it as they can.
