Well, just this morning, I did a complete reformat on my laptop via Media Direct 3.0 and did a clean re-install of Windows XP MCE. Everything is gravy....except the considerably slower start-up time as compared to pre-format.

    Answers/help would be greatly appreciated!

Can anyone offer an explanation? I would really like to fix this annoyance.

Make sure you update your components using the latest Drivers. For video if you have an ATI or Nvidia card I would have you download drivers from laptopvideo2go and or tweaksrus. Also check to see what processes that you have running during startup, shutting down or preventing them from starting should cut down on load time. I would stay away from shutting down Windows Services, unless you know what your doing ... you can search for Windows XP services and in any web browser and it will give you a description of that service. Also make sure you don't have any unknown components under the device manager if you do find and load the appropriate driver.

While formatting helps, you always need to complete the optimize guide (link in format guide). XP has several things turned on by default which most users do not need, so you need to go through the guide and optimize your laptop.
