yeah I reply back to you with what I know...
I feel bad for you, sorry dude

NOTE TO ALL!!!!!!!
Dont ever give out an order number even if it has been cancelled!!!!!
Why? Think about it. Lets say Im the guy you just gave the number to. I now have your system number, details, and your address!!! What do they ask you for each and every time you need to verify yourself??? Yes, your address, the same as is on your order details, even if the invoice and order are different.
It would be very easy to just call up, as an imposter, and say that your order just got cancelled. They will give you all tyhe info and ask your address. You can then say your so upset and they would resubmit it, giving you the bad guy the opportunity to now change the shipping address and change the phone if you wish.
Yes, its been a full day since i came on here and most are probably saying Yea!!! but lets not be so naive as to not help one another.
PS... Hkboy82 I dont know you and am not making any comment whatsoever towards you; you may be an immense help to some. Im just trying to make all aware of just what is possible with that one little number. -

nah... an average-joe won't be able to find out your informations just with an order number...
When you call Dell we won't tell you the owner informations unless you can verify everything.
I work for Dell Canada... I won't be able to help much, but I can at least tell you what's going on with your order number. -
This is just getting stranger and stranger. So I reordered my m1330 and am waiting for my CSR to modify my order to change it to the price of my original order. Now when I check my customer number, I have my previous 2 m1330's cancelled as I already know...and now I see 2 m1330's ordered today 7/30. One of them is in the build stage, and the other "has been changed." I have no clue what to make of this.
-
Just a small update, but my order is now in Boxing.
I honestly urge anyone with an EPP order that is still in pre-production to call and check, especially if you have the nylon carrying case ($60 or free depending on when you ordered).
Hopefully I'm proof that my order went from sitting in pre-production for almost a month to going from build, testing, and boxing in less than 2 business days once I re-placed the order.
It could be a fluke as I've read many black lidded (mine is black) configs are shipping today, but it can't hurt. Plus you can suggest that the Timbuk2 case would be a good replacement for the case you are having to drop. I did and my sales rep was open to it and said operations had suggested replacing my case with this model. I don't know if it was because the extended wait, but I think putting it in that light rather than just asking for one makes it easier to achieve.
I received mine today (shipped separately on Friday by my sales rep, arrived today) and it's pretty nice.
Also, I can't stress enough to find out the number of your sales rep and don't speak to a regular Dell CSR as they don't know jack, and at least your sales rep can modify your order and could be more helpful.
At least that was my experience - hopefully it helps someone. We'll see when my order ships out, hopefully I'll have it this week. -
heh... the moderator deleted my comment at direct2dell... all i said was "Looks like Alex Gruzen brought over a little piece of HP and Compaq with him"
-
EPP = Employee Purchase Program
-
I am an EPP order and I have the free nylon bag coming but my system went into testing and boxing this morning without removing the bag so I really don't think it matters
-
i've been using my m1330 for 8 hours how and there seems to be this annoying high pitch noise coming from it. it's not the harddrive because sometimes when there is lots of harddrive activity the noise is not there. it's more noticable when the AC is plugged in. the high pitch noise sounds like electronic interfence. i have a t7700. anyone experience this on another laptop or the m1330 (tileman, cliegal?)

<==== Fear the new Monkey Ninja!
-
That could be the Core 2 Duo 'whine' that lots of people had been complaining about on some of the first C2Ds out there
-
OH ****! This is the last thing I needed to hear.
-
oh dear, sounds like the mac book pro problems
"A hissing noise often described as a whine, found to be caused by an idle processor. Software workarounds and the effect of screen position and power source on the issue have been reported. As of July 2006, Apple acknowledged the problem, and a replacement mainboard has fixed the "whine" issue for some users."
Obviously it wasn't just Apple, many others have reported this issue including Dell, Sony, HP..... -
no no not the whine
-
Thanks for being a Dell beta tester Monki
-
Uh oh. Flamenko will not be pleased when he reads this!
Hrmm... I seemed to have passed the 1K post barrier somewhere along the way... -
I thought they stopped offering the T7700 as an option... maybe thats why?
-
I'm a bit unfamiliar with the whine issue. Is it only for the 7700 processor or is it all the new Santa Rosas?
-
No, its any core2duo cpu
-
i also have a few build quality issues too, the left hinge cover (manual page 123) doesn't fit right either. there is a gap between cover and the center control cover. when i try to fix the gap by pushing it, the lower part of the hinge cover kind of pops out.
another complaint is the noise the dvd drive makes when ejecting/loading a cd/dvd, sounds like it's going to eat it. very noisy compared to macbook slotload drive -
This is just purrrrrfect. We are truly Dell's test subjects. The DVD drive slot noise is known tho. One of the reviews mentioned it and stated not to load anything in it in a library.
-
Oh dear. The DVD drive issue is well documented on all the reviews but the build quality is a worry. Obviously the price to pay for being one off the first of the production line.
-
WHOLY JEBUS! that's bad! Went I saw the dummy unit at the dell kiosk the other day it was like this, also when you closed the lid on the laptop there was a gap where the hinge it greater thent here should be which was also larger on one side than the other but assumed that was only because it was a dummy display unit but the real thing looks just as bad!!!!!!!!
-
It looks like there's a crack in the casing near the hinge. Is that just a trick being played by the photo or is there actually a crack?
-
come to think of it i thought the paint job might be better, that silver paint looks horrible it looks like they used Krylon in a can to paint the thing, looks like my old Firefly media center remote =\
the sony SZ and MBP are looking better and better when I am only 2 days away from receiving my order =\ -
Mine doesn't make that sound. Mine is SUPER quiet! Other than the slow wireless n card (which will hopefully improve with a new router) and the dead pixel (which they are going to fix) mine is absolutly perfect!
-
Good to know. Well, here's to luck of the draw...
-
Thank goodness.. hopefully mine goes into BOXING tomorrow...
.
-
there seem to be a lot of "except"s and "but"s lol
however your N card isn't slow it is functioning exactly as it should seeing as you don't have an N router yet therefor your laptop will use G which is 54. From what I know having an N card but a G router is supposed to get you more range than using a straight G card and slightly faster speeds (but only up to 54) so that part is fine just go with that dlink router for now if you want the fastest wireless speeds you can get today
glad to hear your unit is quiet! the dead pixel sacres me though.... -
My hinges don't do that either. I would complain about that. My dvd drive is loud though!
-
It's just depressing seeing so many orders leave build and reach testing and boxing stages after I have been waiting exactly 1 month today...and now have to wait another month and a week.
-
things are bad all over. tomorrow is my 5th week exactly.
-
I don't want to keep checking this thread for the past several weeks as I have...but I also want to see everyone get their m1330's and post pics and reviews.
-
Are we ever going to get the perfect system shipped? Considering how long it took to get these things, just think how long it will take to get them repaired!
-
Tileman, not to be rude or anything, but how old are you? Because everyone describes this sound as a very high pitched squeel. And I am thinking it might be like that noise people use to annoy teenagers that is too high for people over say 20 years old to hear, but all the people under 20 her a high frequency squeel.
That would be interesting if that were the case. -
haha they did this to me too when i compared them to gateway lol.
-
probably not, but just now i noticed that even though i don't have any dead pixels, there sight imperfections in the glossy screen, like a small bubbles, that weren't smoothed out or air got trapped underneath. they're only 1 or 2 mm in diameter
i hate to be a nitpick, but we've all been waiting a long time. just sucks. -
I am going to check all these things closely when I get mine, and return it under the 30 day Total Satisfaction thing they have if too many things are wrong.
-
Sorry if this was already posted but it's important enough info about the bluetooth component and those that want to use other OS's

The Dell™ Wireless 350 Bluetooth® module includes a stored License Key that the Toshiba Bluetooth stack validates prior to execution. If this key is not present, it only operates in a 30-day evaluation mode.
The key is tied to the MAC address of the module and is unique for each module. With the introduction of Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Dell will use the Windows® native Bluetooth stack with some additional profiles provided by Cambridge Silicon Radio.
The new part numbers for Microsoft Windows Vista do not include the Toshiba License key. An issue arises if someone purchases a system with Vista and subsequently changes to Windows XP. If they try to load the Toshiba stack, it does not find the License Key and only operates for the 30-day trial period. The user is notified by an advisory popup that the license has expired. -
Hmmm... am I this thread's winner of the most-f**ked-by-Dells-untimely-service award? Its been 34 days since I've ordered and I'm still in the build stage, and I even ordered a black one. Anyone top that?
-
Regarding the t7700, its available on dell Canada site and has been for some time. i only recall it being taken off there for a period of about 4 hours last week when the bluetooth issue got screwed up.
And further....
My guess is that the new owners may be first time XPS owners. If there is anything about that system you dont like...ANYTHING.... contact the XPS Support number in your manual (NOT REG SUPPORT) and they will initiate an exchange and send you another. You keep your until the next arrives...simple as that.
Dont settle for something you dont like.
As for the hinge issue, you can have a tech come next day svc and fix that if you have NBD warranty. -
200GB hdd I think. I had same issue when I ordered mine. It was in build for near 13 days. I ultimately canceled when I couldn't get any of the new promos applied to my current order without first "canceling" my existing order. I'll order a 1330 when the refresh comes out in the november / december time frame.
-
Rellin, I think you and I are in a similar position as our specs are almost the same except graphics, and you ordered a day before me. I ordered through my company's EPP discount program, which may or not make a difference.
-
That's new to me, but it looks like in the same page they post firmware updates that fix the problem? Hopefully?
-
Yeah there's info on there about how to work around that. However it's going to be an unpleasant surprise for some people who don't find out about it before hand.
I wonder if this is in some relation to the bluetooth delay that was rumored. -
ya'll up for chat ?
-
add me to the list. order dates are in the sig.
Rellin, did you order the 9 & the 4 cell batteries?
Anyone order these and in boxing/shipping stages? -
FrontierDriver284 Notebook Evangelist
There's no doubt that the M1330 is more difficult to assemble. It's unlike anything any other Dell notebook and it's small. There are going to be imperfections in production. I think alot of this (ie.. air bubbles) is nitpicking. I've done that every time I got a new notebook. But for the price, the XPS should be near perfect. If I have any hinge or screen issue, I'm returning and going with a Sony or MBP
Post when XPS M1330 ordered and when/if shipped
