Hi all!
I was wondering if any of you can post your Vostro 1500 CPU temperatures and other temps if you can.
I hope mine it's not too hot, but with help from you I can see where mine stands. My config is in my sig. Post yours if you don't have it in sig., please.
So, Celsius degrees:
CPU idle: 53-54
GPU idle: 44-45
HDD idel: 35-36
CPU load: 68-71
GPU load: 56-57
HDD load: 45-46
I have an almost constant 21-22°C in my room.
For temps reading I use:
RMClock for CPU.
GPU-Z for GPU.
Everest for HDD.
-
How do you get the temperatures?
-
CPU idle: 43~46C
GPU idle: 46~48C
HDD idle/load: 40~42C [does not really mean 'same temps when idle and when under full load,' but the temps just always stay there so...]
CPU load: 56~60C [wPrime]
GPU load: 64~68C [depends on the game; 169.04/09]; 67~74C [174.31]
CPU/GPU/HDD fresh start: 28~32C [just additional info]
I use NHC, RivaTuner, and i8kFanGUI to check these temps. The latter is pretty much consistent with the readings of the former two. NHC gets CPU and HDD temps, RivaTuner obviously GPU, and i8kFanGUI gets all three temps and even more.
From what I see, your GPU is actually quite cool, while your CPU seems a bit too hot. My CPU only gets 53-54C when I'm playing videos from YouTube or when I'm scanning with my anti-virus and it only gets hotter than that when I'm using a fully CPU-intensive program such as wPrime.
I'm not really sure what to recommend, because as you can see from my temps, drivers can change my GPU's temps [or at least their readings, if not the temps themselves]. May I know what video driver you're using?
Off-topic: You're running DDR2-800MHz RAM? That's just downclocked to 667MHz because Santa Rosa doesn't support 800MHz... -
For temps reading I use:
RMClock for CPU.
GPU-Z for GPU.
Everest for HDD.
I use 169.09 video driver. I think it's the best so far.
I wonder why my CPU it's hotter than yours as it's the same. I installed it myself w/ some Arctic Silver Ceramique and I may add it wasn't the first CPU installed, so I'm pretty sure I did everything right.
Could it be that RMClock read from another source (like the diode for example) or something? -
Maybe it's just NHC and RMClock having different readings. Does your fan run a bit loud even when CPU loads are low/normal? I'll try using RMClock to see any temp discrepancy between it and NHC.
-
Thanks, Scythie.
Using i8kFanGUI, I've got 41 degrees centigrade across the board (CPU, GPU, RAM, chipset. HDD not showing up). I've just been using Firefox for the last hour, though. -
RMClock and NHC are pretty close, no more than 2C away from each other. Sometimes RM reads higher, sometimes NHC reads higher, but as I said, they're at most 2C apart in their readings.
Sorry for the bad screenshotLeft is RMClock reading while the one on the right is obviously NHC. I also included a [bugged -- reads my T7300 as T7500 lol] shot of my CPU-Z.

The fan starts from time to time when web browsing. It turns on all the way when in a game. Now I have 50-51 temp just as I'm writing this.
You should get the latest CPU-Z version: http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php -

Guys, you should specify your room temperature, too.
In winter, with 19-20 °C in the room my cpu runs at about 30-35 °C while using Openoffice and Firefox for an hour or more, the GPU is at about 45-55 °C (more toward the 55°C, though)
BUT... my fans are always on when I'm plugged in. I don't know why, they run at slow speed and they are very quiet, but the only time when they are off is when I'm on battery and I am really not using the laptop - even then the 'off period' lasts only a bunch of seconds.
This happened in vista and happens now in XP, so I guess it is not an OS dependent behavior. In Linux too they are always on and the temperatures there are a tad higher than in Windows. -
I have an almost constant 21-22°C in my room. My fan's acting the same. Low speed when plugged in and just browsing. Sometimes it goes faster.

Ambient temps here are around 27~33C. And it's getting hotter by the day [it's "summer" here in the tropics].
My fan only kicks in when I have a few YouTube tabs open in Firefox, or when I'm gaming of course.
Temp readings aside, when does your laptop actually feel hot? When I play games, the keyboard and the area above it feels hot/warm to the touch, but does not border on uncomfortable. The air that blows out of the fan sometimes feels warm, but sometimes, it strangely feels like a 'cool' [not really cold, but it doesn't feel warm either] breeze -- just a jet of air forced out.
Also, I do notice that my CPU load and temp increases when I watch HD [1280x720] content. The fans then would also kick in. -
When in a game I can't say that it gets hot. Air coming out it's at most warm and far from hot. I have no problems, no BSODs, I was just wondering how I stand w/ my temps. So far, don't know the reasons, but it seems a little above average. Maybe after more users post their temps...

Switched from Ceramique to Arctic Silver but still no improvement in temps. I thought I didn't apply Ceramique ok, but it was perfectly applied. Now I don't know why my temp is a little higher than all of you.
As I'm writing this RMClock reads 51-52° C.
Later Edit: now I noticed that CPU load is never below 10-11% and the HDD is constantly working/clicking. Any ideas why? -
Anyone else care to post some temps?
At 21-22 degrees C room temp. I still get 52-52 just browsing and instant messaging. -
With the 16x and 17x nVidia driver, the GPU temp is 10C higher than in 15x (from Dell). 47C vs 57C idle.
-
Hi guys. Mine's not a 1500 it's a 1700 but I'll post temps anyway cuz I think I got it to go max load...
Full Load...
GPU: 60c
CPU: 52c
Idle is gpu 48 cpu 38 I didn't wanna take pic of idle temps cuz that's boring. I wanna take this Penryn through it's paces! -
Well, today I changed Arctic Silver 5 to Arctic Cooling MX-2, which was supposed to be better. No temp drop. Still 51-52 idling.
I guess it's something from my CPU, otherwise I don't know what can be the cause of such higher temp than others have.
One thing is odd tough: I get very good temps at GPU: 41 and HDD: 37 when browsing and using messenger (same as above).
