Ran 3dmark 05 on my I9300 with the 256MB Go6800
1024x768 score is 3315. No o/c, all default.
Please post yours here for comparisons. Make sure it's 3dmark 05, and the res is the same.
I might o/c it and see what kind of boost I can get. []
cheers,

Dissapointing. I just found out yesterday they changed the bios version in the XPS2 from what it was in reviews by Tom's Hardware and others, downclocked the graphics a little, and locked out overclocking. I'm not very happy. -

I guess that's right for the 2.0GHz version of this system. I have a new one coming next week so I wonder if that one will be the same or a little better (new one because this one has a mosaic/glitter/sparkle effect on the screen). -

Hello, this is my first post on the boards but ive been reading on here for over a month.
I ordered an Inspiron 9300 on March 11th and received it yesterday. So far so good im pleased with the quality of laptop itself, time will tell to see if I have any issues with it. I have the UXGA screen and did notice it to be reflective and glossy but so far it does not bother me, I will post later today when im at home on the other thread saying which brand LCD I have. Cause Ive never experienced the sparkle effect so im not sure what im supposed to see and frankly if I don't see it now, I wouldn't want to spot it hehe.
As soon as I got the laptop I did a fresh install of XP Pro, installed win updates and drivers, installed 3d Mark05 and ran the test.
3DMark05: 2927
I will do some tweaking to the laptop further more and see if I can increase my score.

It runs stable and i think thats pretty damn good for only having the 1.86mhz. I was going to get the 2.0ghz P-M but i opted for the 1.86, saved me 200 bucks and i got the system for 1850 shipped! []
Also yass, what is in your system? A score is nice, but need to know what your running! []

Yass, i had a I9200 before i returned it for my I9300. It had P-M 2.0ghz 400mhz FSB, 1GB ram 400mhz, 128mb M9700 video card and the rest was the same specs as my I9300 now. It only scored a 1257 with a fresh install of windows and the latest omega drivers. So it worth returning my I9200 for I9300 [
]
Also, it seems the processor speed helped a good amount in bencmarking. I have the 1.86 and yass has the 2.0 P-M and you scored 400 points higher right out of the box. I bet you can easily and safely get your 3dmark score in the 4000 range if i can hit 3800's.

Heh, I just did a fresh XP Pro install on my desktop tonight and ran 3dmark05 and got a score of 2497, my laptop got 2927 after the same treatment.
Desktop is AMD64 3000, 512MB DDR 400MHz CAS2, 200GB SATA 7200RPM, RADEON PRO 128MB. The desktop seemed to do a bit better in the first run(2-3fps higher) and in the second run, laptop did better.

Supreme, that is as about as good as the I9300 can get out of the box. The one deciding factor is our graphics card. If we had the Go 6800 Ultra we could achieve the scores that the XPS 2 is getting. I overclocked my Go 6800 and was able to achieve a score of 3876 with 3dmark05. Since you have the P-M 2.0ghz compared to the 1.86 i have you can probably overclock it and achieve scores in the 4000's. Our systems will never equal an XPS 2 because of the graphics card. Also supreme, not sure how many games you have played but i can run UT2004 at 1900x1200 with max settings, no slowdowns and Halo at 1600x1200 with max settings and no slowdown. I also play WoW at max out resolution and settings with no slowdowns. For the price, this system is fast! I got mine for under 1900 and i love it!
For your shift key problem, pull off the key and re-attach it. Might have been put on a little off and its not sitting flush.

Anyway, tweaked the card a little more and got the 3dmark05 score up some more.
Default settings, free version, nothing changed.

Im going to see if i can tweak it some more and break the 4000 mark with my P-M 1.86. I know you wonder why i sit here and fiddle with it, but i enjoy it and enjoy this system and want it to perform and its peak!

korbeck, a clean install is not necessary but it will give you the peace of mind knowing that the only thing on the system will be windows xp and whatever you put on. It also helps free up some hard drive space. I did a clean install, loaded all the programs and games i played and wanted, updated everything (patches, windows updates, virus updates, program updates) and then i used msconfig and turned off all the unecessary programs that start with windows. I uses services.msc to turn off a whole bunch of worthless services that run to free up memory and then i did a defrag with Diskeeper Professional 8.0 and ran the scandisk with a system restart. Last thing i did was i used RegscrubXP to make sure my registry was clean and had no errors.
Why i did all this you ask? So i know whats on my system and whats running on it. I regained a couple hundred points on 3dmark05 and my system just seems to respond better to everything i do.
Now that the system is setup, i run a full virus scan every 2 weeks and i run Adaware and Spybot about once a week to keep spyware off the system. Hope that helps!

Supreme, i did that when i got the system. With my overclocking im still geting in the 3900's.
Korbeck, is the DPI for the screen still set at 120? That usually is the problem. I have mine set at 96, which is too small for some people. If it is, just drop your resolution down.
