    Hi there

In the past 2 months i have ordered 2 XPS 1330s, one for my flatmate and one for a work colleague, and both have come with tiny 65watts adapters.

I took the plunge and ordered one for myself with a 9300 CPU and they have sent me a massive old style 90 watt house brick. Its too big,

So i got onto customer support, which is a nightmare and they finally told me that you can only use a 90Watt adapter with that particular CPU.

Can anyone tell me if this is ok, and what would happen if i used a 65 watt.

    many thanks everyone,

    Jamie

It will work. Dell's 65 watt and 90 watt adapters are interchangeable with one another and have been for the past several years.

BUT, if the system doesn't think that the 65 watt adapter can deliver enough juice, it will tell you to switch to the 90 watt adapter or it won't run at full speed. I don't actually think this restriction is based on the actual, real-time power requirements of the machine, but based on Dell's own power preferences. Thus if it gives you the little warning, I don't think there's anything you can do about.

It's pretty dumb on the whole, though; the T9 and T8 series have the same TDP as the T7 series...

Don't know.. Here the 1330 can be ordered with a 65 W, except for the T9500... In any case, the worst that can happen when using a underpowered adapter is taking very long to charge.. Or a burned out adapter if power is overdrawn for a while..

I can almost guarantee you won't burn out a 65 watt adapter on the M1330. I've used a five-year old 65 watt adapter on my 90 watt D830 quite a few times and it's never had a problem. The throttle-down implemented by Dell is pretty much ensuring that you won't overdraw a weak power supply.

I have the 1330 and 9300. I got the 65W adapter only and it works fine.

A friend of mine who ordered the 1330 with 8300 around the same time got a power brick..!

Same here. M1330 with T9300 and 65W adapter. I actually ordered a spare adapter along with the system and the only one listed for the M1330 was the 65W. Both are nice 3-prong adapters.
