I've had my Inspiron for about a year, and every now and then I get the following message at start up....

The Ac pwer adapter wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available. Connect a 90W AC adapter or greater for better performance. To resolve this issue, try to reseat the power adapter.

I unplug the adapter from the back of my pc, and replug, and hit f1, and it works fine.

What is causing this, and how do I fix this issue?

It usually happens when I'm busy, and I can't get to the phone to call tech support. But I've been getting the message since I've had the computer. Usually a couple of times close together. (at start-up) Then I might not see the message for a month or two. I'm wondering if this will become a major issue in a couple of years, and once my warranty expires??

Is your power adapter 90W or 65W? If it's 65, then you have the wrong adapter. If it's 90, there is probably something wrong with it.

Is it still under warranty? You should be able to get a replacement adapter.
