I stumbled upon an option to turn off the optical drive when running on battery the other day, but I can't remember where it was.
Also I just reinstalled Windows last night, so maybe I need some software from Dell to do that.
My laptop is a Studio 17 (1737) but I doubt that's relevant since it's a software issue. Oh and OS is the same as before fresh install - Windows 7 (build 7100), but I had some Dell software installed; this time around i skipped it all.

I'd really appreciate if someone could help me out with the info. Thanks.
