    Pre-Production :( - UK

    Hi all,

    I ordered my Studio 1555 yesterday however its been in pre production since yesterday around 10pm.

    I contacted my Dell rep this morning and she said this is normal and there are no delays on my order?

    My EDD is 10 September? Could I expect it earlier. What are other UK user waiting for their Studio 15s?

    The EDD tends to be a "worse case scenario"; you could get your notebook a week earlier, but it could be bang on the date.

    Be patient. some us has to wait considerably longer than the two weeks you've got. It's what happens when you order bespoke notebooks from Dell. Cheap price, fully customised = takes time to deliver.

    Fair enough :)

    I guessed they leave some time on the date in case they get delays.

    Would Dell assemble over the bank holiday as that could be the cause of the delay?

    I doubt if a bank holiday in the UK would affect assembly lines in China :)

    I ordered a Studio 1555 yesterday and it has a EDD of 14 September so you have worked about better than me. Just need to be patient and it will come in due time.

    On the web it is In Production.
    On one phone number it is still being processed.
    On another phone number it is In Production in the Build stage with a scheduled ship day of 08 September.

    I believe the Web System is a bit slow updating by reading various posts.

    I will wait and see by tonight.

    Apparently 24hours in Pre-production is normal.

    Limerick, Ireland is one of their plants, but it's likely it will be assembled in their main facilities in Malaysia (I believe).

    Its still Pre Production hoping it may go into production around 10pm tonight (when it went to pre production last night)

    Would be nice to get it next week before I go back to school but not a requirement.

    I know it's hard, but stop checking it, it wont make it go any faster.

    Pre-production can take 10 minutes or it can take several days. Depends how many other systems are already in the queue.

    In US the number 1-800-283-2210 is the best , i tried the other number 18004339014 which is supposed to be a direct call to order status system, but that shows pre processing always .. my studio 1555 system will deliver to my home tomorrow. In my case EDD was supposed to be Sep 4th, Shipping Aug 31, but it shipped on Aug 27th and is delivering on Aug 29th. So about 9 days for me from the time of order online to delivery. But as usual it depends a lot on parts and their availability. I fully agree, dont see it again and again, it will make you crazy .. i actually left it for 2-3 days and to my surprise when i saw it said shipped .. i was shocked !!! since for the first 2-3 days i was checking it every 1 hour :)

    Hi guys,

    Looked at the Order Stages wiki today (very interesting) and it says Pre Production is usually waiting for parts.

    Does that apply to those in the UK also?

    I am still in pre - production as of today but I saw that someone on the forums was in that stage for three days in the UK. I am hoping thats the case for me and I got into production next week :)

    So it has been in pre-prod from 27 to now ! Thats bad, i thought in-production (kitting) is the stage when it is waiting for parts. I never saw pre-production on my laptop, it went from processing to in-production (atleast as far as i could track - so possibly it was in preprod maybe for the time i was sleeping ;-))

    I think you should not rely on automated systems, talk to a rep, thats what it asks once it completes giving the status on phone, it asks "do you want to speak to someone about your order", just say "yes" and speak to someone, they would be better off telling what part is holding you off.

    As far as I am aware we don't have an automated status Line in the UK.

    I have spoken with Live Chat and they just say its normal!

    On the Order Status page on the website it says Pre-Prodcution can last 14days and its calculated in the EDD.

    It is perfectly normal, relax!

    Oh and it's not made in the UK, it will likely be made in Malaysia.

    Pre-production can last ages, then all of a sudden it can jump through many stages. I would give you the phone number of the UK status line, but you should really stop checking and await a phone call arranging delivery ;)

    The UK Status line will say the same stage as online for most of the time; just for some reason it's sometimes slightly more up to date.

    Delivery depends on where you live. Walsh Western is the logistics company, so they sort out getting it from Dell to you, but they typically use different local couriers depending on where you live. Mine has always been business post.

    It works like this. Machine is built wherever (I can't remember the name of the place, something like PenYang or something), it gets shipped to the Dell hub in Limerick, Ireland. From there it will go to the Western Walsh depot, which I think is in Hinckley, and from there it will be shipped to your local courier.

    Just spoke to someone who has had about 3 Dell and they too have said moves from Pre production to shipped very quick in about 5days :D

    Much more relieved :)

    I have no idea what the cost of the call is, I am fortunate enough to have enough money so that I don't really worry about looking at the phone bill; it just gets paid.

    I have tried to tell you not to worry..... and I've had a lot more than 3 Dells. 5 Dell laptops and I have ordered maybe 15 or 20 desktops in the past.

    It doesn't matter anyway, there is nothing you can do to speed it up; it will simply take as long as it takes. The ESD / EDD is normally pretty good though. Often people get theirs before this date, but only very rarely have I ever known it to be delivered later than this date.

    It depends on the courier, but once it's made it's way to the Walsh Western depot it normally only takes about 3 days, sometimes 2 days, a few times I had to wait about a week.

    I found a guide on the FAQs on the Dell Site showing when you are in Production your order has been built and is being tested?

    Surely it should be "Your order will be built and tested"?

    Also, I haven't yet received a Confirmation email saying payment has been cleared? Is this why it is being produced yet?

    Order line is still Pre production.

    I know its not meant to be delivered till week Thursday, but I was hoping it would have moved into production by today...

    Perhaps I am over-reacting but I find that not getting a Order Confirmation shows payment hasn't gone through... Maybe I am wrong?

    I checked this morning and mine was shipped yesterday. It claims to have a delivery date of Saturday but I'm guessing that it will actually be on Tuesday since the Dell site says it was sent by FedEx Ground and not Home Delivery and they don't deliver on Saturdays via FedEx ground and also because of the Labor Day holiday on Monday here in the U.S.

    It could be any day now. If it is anything like the Boxing Stage in the U.S. I was in it starting on Monday and it shipped yesterday on Wednesday. Maybe...hopefully they are quicker in the UK?

    Anyone know why the Order Status Line is still saying Delivery Prep?

    Which should I believe? I would say the website is it as there is tracking there as well?
