I am looking to get a new laptop for work and am currently undecided - Sony VAIO FZ, or Dell Precision M4300 or XPS 1530.

As my employer will be purchasing the laptop I am limited in terms of configuration options.

I would normally favor the VAIO but with the ability to custom configure Dell gives me better options of future proofing the system.

My question maninly deals with the issue of screen resolution. Correct me if I am wrong but Sony probably has the better quality screen even if it is 1280 x 800. I read mixed reviews of Dell's WXGA screnn so I thought I would go with the WSXGA in the Precision lineup as this is not an option for government purchasers of the XPS model. However, in several reviews people mentioned that the text and icons were too small. Bringing the resolution down to WXGA had mixed results. If this is the case then the VAIO might be back in the running. Any one have any opinions regarding Dell's LCDs?

    Thanks!

I have the M4300 with SXGA+. I used to use a 15.4" laptop with a WUXGA at 1920 x 1200, and that DEFINITELY was too small. The SXGA+ is a good compromise though. It still may be a bit small for some, just depends on your opinion. If they offered the M4300 in a WXGA+ (1440x900), I'd choose that one. But your best bet is to just look at the resolutions of the screens in a store. Go look at a laptop that is 15.4" like the M4300, and see what resolution suits you the best.
