What is your preferred screen resolution for 14 -15 inch machine ? Higher resolution increases the screen real estate but make reading difficult. Text in browser become so tiny and may strain your eyes when reading for prolonged hours... Pls vote and share your experience/advice. Thanks

on a 15 i relly liked the wsxga i had.. not to small as i first thought it would be just right imo and i could get a lot on the screen.. i loved it also text can be made larger, and imo it really wasnt all bad anyway even at the normal size

I wouldn't go lower than WSXGA+ since they stopped offering my preferred resolution on 15" notebooks when they started doing 17" notebooks... UXGA or WUXGA are the best resolutions on a 15" chassis... The WSXGA+ at 1680x1050 is the second step down
I don't find those resolutions to be too "tiny", but my handwriting is about 1/8th of an inch in height so... -
For the last couple of weeks I've been working on a 14" WXGA+ TrueLife (1440 X 900). I was quite scared when I ordered it because I am wearing glasses an even with them, my vision is not perfect. In fact, I recently returned nice 24" DELL ultrasharp monitor just b-cs I thought resolution was too high for me...
Why did I go for the WXGA+? B-cs it was (and still is) on saleAnyways, I've been using WXGA+ but was quite unhappy with 1) it's brightness and 2) viewing angles. Gloss (contrary to my expectations) did not bother me at all, in fact, I kinda began to like it (even though always opposed glossy screens).
At some point I got fed up with REALLY poor viewing angles, went out and bought the same model (Vostro 1400) but with WXGA (matte). It's heck of lot brighter than the WXGA+ TrueLife (which in my case was a SEC panel) and definitely has better viewing angles. Out of the box WXGA delivered better colors, although both WXGA+ TL and WXGA seem to be okay once calibrated. Definitely WXGA is a bit easier to read, but I never felt strained with WXGA+ TL... the only limitation I felt with WXGA+ TL was how far out I could have it and still be able to read the screen.
Once I switched to WXGA - I immediately missed the extra pixels. Even thought I can't tell that it's affecting my use/productivity, but it just feels crammedFeels like a laptop screen, while WXGA+ TL felt more like a PC monitor - lots of space. I wish they made WXGA+ non-TrueLife version, I think it would have been my choice of panel. For now, i'm returning WXGA+ TrueLife and sticking with WXGA.

i wish they offered the wsxga in a matte finish that would be my first choice 100% now no more of this grainy truelife stuff

With 1280 X 800 and 1440 X 900 on a 15" screen, the icons look too large.
Maybe 1440x900 would look OK on a 14", but I haven't seen that. -
Looks like getting more positive feedback for 1440 x 900. Thinking now to get a 14-inch laptop with that resolution after selling my 1520

1680x1050 on a 14.1" screen would be nice. There aren't any such screens anywhere in the world, right? Hopefully that will change soon.
In fact, I would like 1920x1200 even better! Of course, at 160.6 DPI, things would look very small, but I am used to the 2048x1536 on my 15.0" Thinkpad R50p (170.7 DPI)! -
Vista has a font scaling engine that will really turn your perceptions of high dpi displays completely around once you set it up properly and get used to it.
1920x1050 on 15.4" is very nice and is like a printed piece of paper You don't see any jagged edges, stairstepping, or quantization on the fonts; they just look perfect.
The downside of the current WUXGA displays is that they are not as bright as some of the displays with lower resolution.
If you're still on XP....1) Why??, Vista is an awesome product and works very well, and 2) the scaling sucks. -
