Hi, I was just wondering how I could preserve my laptop's LCD screen?
I gave away my external monitor cause my brother really needed one, so I have to use this for now.
The only thing I can think of is, I reduced the brightness down to 84% of max in windows mobility center, and I have the monitor set to shutoff after 1 minute.
Is there anything else I can/should do?
    Thanks. :)

I wouldn't worry about it. The LCD should out last any other main component in the laptop.

Really? I thought I read somewhere once that laptop monitors have a higher failure rate than others?
So I don't need to have it turn off after a minute?

I wouldn't. If you keep it safe from physical damage, you should be fine.

Naw the only thing that goes wrong is a dead or stuck pixel but that has nothing to do with leaving the monitor on for long periods.

Well, the only thing that would really go is the laptops backlight lamp, but they last 20,000-30,000 hours at least. It will likely out last the laptop.

30,000 hours is 3.5 years straight of being turned on. So even if you use the laptop with the screen on for 12 hours a day, thats 7 years.

Ah ok, that's good to know. :)
Now I just have to find the optimal resolution for me. It's a 17" WUXGA, where I was using a 19" flat panel before at 1280x1024. Only question I have is, playing games will the screen stretch to fill the monitor, or is there some option to play at native with black borders?
I tried the option in the BIOS that claims to do just that, but once it gets into windows it stretches to fit the screen. :(
I'm surprised though, the quality isn't as bad as I thought it would be. I always used an external monitor, never used the laptop's before. :)

dont touch the screen to point something out. do not put excessive pressure on the screen and the lid, so much so that there is a ripple seen. dont close the laptop if it is still hot or running. dont drop the laptop, dont lean on the computer, dont put stuff on top of the computer lid.

most people that has broken LCD is mainly because they travel a lot or were not careful while travelling that they either drop the laptop (broke the inverter/CCFL lights) or ding the lcd (broken panel).

no need to be as worried about the lights.

Oh I don't do anything like that, and it's stationary on my desk. :)
Thanks for all your answers, I have nothing to worry about. :)
