For those of you who returned your laptop to Dell for reasons of light leakage from the display I have a few questions...

    1. What kind of screen/display did you have and how bad was it?
    2. What is your screen/display now and are you happy with it?
    3. Did you have to pay shipping either way? What did it cost?
    4. How long did it take to get your laptop back once you shipped it out?

I finally have my laptop after 2 months of dealing with Dell and their prices. My only problem now is there is quite a lot of light leakage coming from the bottom...A lot more than the last 2 laptops I've bought and resold and this one isn't even ultra-sharp. The viewing angle is quite bad as well... and it's an LG screen

I've finally got the laptop I want now though and I'm very impatient and not sure if It's worth sending back. Thanks in advance for any help! :)

I'm skipping over the questions because I have a special circumstance. My advice: if you are unhappy with your laptop, fix it while you are in your 21 day period. If it is a 50/50 shot on whether your next screen will be better or worse, so you have to be willing to take the chance. If you are within your 21 day period, then you wouldn't have to pay for it. Considering something is wrong with the laptop, your restock fees would be waved, and all you would have to pay is shipping, but dell might not charge you that either.

Reason I'm saying all of this is if you wait after your 21 day period, you are screwed. I wasn't happy with my screen either (mainly because it was matte and not truelife), and I thought I would eventually grow to like it. Things would get better. They didn't. I ended up paying $500 for a new truelife screen from Dell parts (think it might have been refurbished even), and I had to install it myself - no big deal on that part, but if I had fixed the problem during my 21 day period, it would have been fixed for free.

How is the lcd panel not covered under the warranty? l would think that even if it's not "defective" by dell's definition you would at least not have to pay that much for it. l remember a site that you send your laptop to, and for like $100 replace the panel with a replacement.

exactly. If it is defective, that is a completely separate issue, but technically light leakage isn't defective - that is a personal perference. Yes, there is a site. We did a review on them around Christmas, but I contacted them to get an upgrade and got the run around.
