This is crazy! I ordered my Dell XPS M1330 on the 31st July and the whole package cost me $2722.50. Now exactly the same configuration costs $3148.50. Thats an increase of $426! in just a matter of weeks! Whats going on with Dell? They can't even supply the damn machines and now they've increased the Price! The config I bought is:

    T7500 2.2 Ghz
    4GB Ram
    LED Backlit Display Black
    Dell Premium Mouse
    Sound Blaster Audigy Software
    Belkin Wireless Router
    Vista Premium
    GeForce 8400 GS
    160GB Hard Drive
    6 Cell Battery

    Was $2722 Now $3148 JESUS!

This may not pertain to Australia but in some cases especially in Europe it is not so much that the price has increased but that they have changed the basic configurations. I was looking at the Ireland website and the UK website today and it looks like Dell has changed the basic configuration and made some things like larger size HD's like the 160 HD on the top model as standard and removed the option for the 120 HD. There has been some other changes as well like making the wireless N and Bluetooth as standard as well and other changes.

Yes that's true the standard configurations are different which would account for some of the price change. However the cost of adding various components has changed i.e. it was 33 euro to add the fingerprint reader and now it is 76 euro, it was 12 euro to add the bluetooth module and now it's 36, it was also 12 to upgrade to the draft N wifi card and that is also 36.

There's no reason to justify these price differences....It is still working out to be significantly more expensive to order the system i had specced.....

Actually in awutralia what has happened is they havn't changed teh base system price but have made the specs worse.

The top model used to have the LED screen, and wireless N standard. Now you have to pay extra for both those upgrades. Theer may be others aswell but i havn;t really looked.

    hi guys,

same case here in india, the pre-order in July used to include the LED screens, but by the time i ordered in Aug, it became LCD standard screen, also the costs have risen for some upgrades and reduced for some... which is a bit strange...

It appears that this has happened in NZ as well...This is what happen as well and to make matter worse I don't think we have the affect of the decrease in value of the $NZ.

I won't be ordering until Vista SP1 in Q1 2008 now anyway. By which time I believe Intel will also have released new CPU's to the mobile market.

Maybe now they'll be able to catch up with prior orders.

Yup! It looks like that there has been price increases accross the board. The Base Price of the top package in Australia has increased by $200 and the add ons also cost more. Instead during my long wait for the computer it hasnt depreciated at all its appreciated!!

I speced my order again on the UK site using the top model and it came out at £1,585 (it works out more expensive on the other two options) and it was £1,545 more recently so it has gone up by a bit for me. The price dropped for a little while actually but it has gone back to what it was more or less when I placed my order in early July.

I also noticed that the middle model in the UK[and possibly in the rest of Europe] now has 2GB of ram as standard.

I am just glad i ordered when i did mainly because now i think that it maybe harder now to get a good deal by haggling than what it was when these models were just released.

markjsca1 hopefully you can get a good deal on one.

I wonder if at all these alterations to the standard configurations may have any impact for production.

Maybe these price increases are indicative of better production? I don't mind them taking a little longer and charging a little more if it'll guarantee better quality units.

On the Australia site it depends which base system you order. Choose the one starting at $1699, and fully spec it out, will cost you some $500 more than the base system starting at $2299.

For months I have kept an eye on it, and price differences have not varied by more than $100, and that depends on the specials going, and of course what base system you start and configure from.

I'd say the price increase is simply a way to bring down demand, for fear that they can't meet the demand.

Do you think is it better to place your order over the phone - could you get a better deal that way?

    Absolutely.

Dell's pricing policy should be observed by some mean watchdogs, because it's not justified to charge more for the exact same component when I compare a Vostro with a XPS.

They mislead customers all the time.
