The same 1720 config that I posted 3 days ago (link below) can now be had for $110 cheaper ($1,237 vs. my previous price of $1,347). The only noticeable changes are that the initial "base" prices are considerably cheaper, while the "instant savings" are less now. There is also a free upgrade to 2GB of RAM, which provides substantial savings. All this, coupled with the use of the $350 coupon provides a considerably cheaper price for the same configuration.

The $350 off coupon still works? All I see is the $225 off one.

It's good through the 12th. You need to manually apply it, but it's definitely still active. Makes for some good savings.

What about the people that have already ordered? Is there any way to get Dell to compensate the difference or something?

Yeah, I ordered last night. I can reconfigure the exact same 1520 + the 2 GB RAM and larger HD for the same price. Should/Can I cancel my order or should I call and ask to have these items added to my order pro bono?

    Hi.

Henry Mann asked me to remind you guys that if you ordered at one price, then call back to get a price adjustment just because they are selling it cheaper now, you are of low moral fiber.

You agreed to buy at the price you paid. You are taking advantage of Dell if you call in with your price matching fraud, or cancelling/reordering schemes.

Don't know how it is with dell, but lenovo makes you wait until after it ships, then submit the quote you put the same system together at a lower price, and they will credit you the difference. EIther that, or cancel your order and rebook at the lower price (which puts you back at the end of the line). Dell's probably more flexible than that though. I'd be surprised if they couldn't just adjust the price straight up.

So which way did you choose?

I chose stop the order, resubmit at same price, and they chose to ship anyways lol. So hope it works, because mine isn't even a price match, but an admitted glitch in their system!

But I'm glad to hear this is how dell does it too.

I just noticed that Dell is now including 2 GB of RAM for free, on the 1520 at least, without increasing the prices of the other stuff.

I just got off the phone with dell after an 1hr of cancelling my previous order to the new deal they had for the 1420. I am paying almost $200 less for better specs, the only thing I had to comprimising on was the screen resolution (just couldn't wait another 2week for the high resolution glossy wide screen 1440/900). Proccesor and Hardrive are the two mayor differencess. Compare to the one on my sig, Here are my new specs:

    Midnight Blue
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/4MB cache)
Genuine Windows® Vista Home Premium Edition
    Anti-glare, widescreen 14.1 inch display (1280x800)
    128MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 8400M GS

    Built-in Bluetooth capability (2.0 EDR)
    Integrated 2.0 Megapixel Webcam
56Whr Lithium Ion Battery (6 cell)
    High Definition Audio 2.0
Price: $1321.20 with tax plus free next day shipping Thats including the $350 discount code I got from here, and little bit of haggling. (and I didn't move from my delivery spot, still getting it on the 19th of july) :D

I basically only had the option to have Dell credit the difference to me after I received the invoice because I had used the 200$ coupon earlier for the University savings, and wouldn't be able to use it again.

And to bosco999 ? i dont see anything in your sig

//edit Yeah, I'd say that is definitely a better deal..

I just checked the site, and it looked like all the prices were the same. Then two minutes later, They all said Please call for latest prices

Maybe that's the default message when there is a price update in progress?

I called up Dell, and the associate only presented me with one option of canceling my 1720 order, which I took him up on. I'm now getting a $190 discount for the same specs with a bigger hard drive. The ship date was pushed back 6 days though, but I think it was worth it.

Hell yes it's worth it. Seems like a long time now, but what's six days vs yearws of using a notebook with something not as you prefer?

I can't believe you accepted lower resolution just for 2 weeks bosco!

I've been pricing 1420s all different kinds of ways this past week, (even went to the mall kiosk because they said they could beat my online price), and the price did drop between yesterday and today, so I went for it, and called Dell. The rep said I would get a discount just for calling in, so she beat the online price and the mall's price. Ship date - July 19. Here's what I got - for $200 less than yesterday's price, and a bigger HD. (She applied the $350 off coupon, along with 7% off for Dell Care plus. I tried to haggle with her for more of a discount, but she wouldn't budge.)

    Midnight Blue
    Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 (1.5GHz/667Mhz FSB/2MB Cache)
    Vista Home Premium
    Anti-glare widescreen 14.1 inch
    Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
    2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz
    160GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
CD / DVD writer (DVD+/-RW Drive)
    Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini-Card
    Integrated 2.0 Megapixel Webcam
56Whr Lithium Ion Battery (6 cell)
DellCare Plus - 3 yr. limited warranty, 3 yr. Complete Care accidental damage, 3 yr. LoJack, 3 yr. McAfee spyware

    Price: $979.80 + tax

Couldn't help it, I'm not a very patient person, especially when it comes to new toys, besides ram, proccessor and the hardrive are the most important things for me. I can deal with low resolution on a laptop, have my gaming desktop for all that other cool stuff. Speed and size is what I require most, I like multitasking and downloading alot. But that's just me :D

Hm, I bought my Inspiron 1520 for about $1480 after the $200 student discount, $292 select Dell discount, 7% DellCare Plus discount, and 12% off systems over 1600 discount. This also included the 2gig RAM that costed an additional $139 which I see is being offered for free now.

How will this work if I wanted to price match? Do I wait till I get my order and request credit back to my account or should I call and have it cancelled? Will this void my student discount?

What phone number are you guys calling at Dell? My configuration is $160 less than it was when I ordered it, and after calling Dell, they said I can't get the difference refunded, period. They also verified that the $200 student discount coupon was a one time use, and if the ordered was cancelled, the coupon couldn't be reused. I'll call back if I'm talking to the wrong people at Dell.

Is the 7200 RPM HD even worth it now, considering you can get the same size (though at 5400rpm) for $160 less?

I don't recall the upgrade from 5400 to 7200RPM hard drive costing that much previously. I think it was at the most like $50 more.

I think it used to be $125, actually, because I had been pricing the "Better" and "Best" options, and I needed that $125 to kick to the next percentage discount, or something.

I'm about 80+% sure it was $125. Not sure what that's worth, but, there you go, ha.

I called the customer support line and got the order I placed last night canceled within 10 minutes. When I got the confirmation email a minute later, I placed a new order, upgrading to the 2GB and 160 HD. Exact same price. Get this deal while you can! It will be a while before it ships, though, so I can see if the back to school sales are better. :D

Hmm...I just re-priced mine on the Web, and compared to what I got at the store today (which had been much better than yesterday's web deal), it's...

    9 cents cheaper!

Yeah, I think I'll go with a 25% chance of it coming a day earlier than an extra 9 cents. If it took 10 minutes to re-order, I'd be working at 54 cents an hour so...not worth it there.

And the hard drive upgrade did shoot up...$162 v. $50 before. I also noticed the regular discount is now $168, so the student coupon once again has an albeit small use.

Ah, too much worrying about prices. Time to delete my Dell University emails forever.
