What happened with Dell?
The Core™ 2 Duo processor T7200 option is not available for Inspiron 6400.
2 weeks ago, I got this quote from their web site
Now you can't configure that system. Similar configuration with lower cpu costs MORE!!
Why the sudden price increase? Is there going to be a price drop before/after Christmas or not? When would be the best time to buy a laptop?
Is dell going to add the T7200 option back to 6400?
-
Didnt I say this was going to happen in one of my threads? No one believed me. Just goes to show you.

They do shift their prices around alot...
-
wait a little bit, and your bound to see that dell has put this system on sale which will bring it back to its older price, thats what ive seen in the past
-
They change their prices on a daily basis.
-
It's crazy who on the one day everyone lowers prices Dell raises thiers -
They change prices a lot.
-
dell is one of the, if not THE, largest customer for different hardware vendors. dell's component needs change on a daily basis depending on supply and demand. because of this, dell's prices and availability of certain components changes very very frequently. all you have to do is track this for a couple weeks and you will see that prices rise and fall a lot and components disappear and return when supply is available.
it's unreasonable to pull up a quote from a couple weeks ago and then expect it to remain the same when we are now in the busiest shopping time of the year. -
Does anyone know if the prices will be going up or down next month or by jan?
-
They have T7200 option available today.
There was no option to select Bluetooth 2.0 though you could select bluetooth keyboard but that gives an incompatibility alert.

Dell recently introduced Inspiron 1501 to target basic entry level market and Dell has been actively marketing this product. But HP/compaq's deals are better and also because they are available in most of the popular electronics retail stores so I doubt that dell 1501 would eat any of hp/compaq's market share.
The current dell bang for buck factor is not that attractive compared to other vendor laptops that has solid laptop body and looks.
Dell not showing luv to Canadians during canada/US thxgiving holidays.
These and other superstitious factors would lead to less than expected sales of Dell laptops during thxgivin holidays resulting in access inventory. Which means prices should go down in Dec.

When is it going to snow?
Wait and seeI don't think anyone knows when exactly the prices will change. However the fact that they WILL is pretty obvious. I'm sure Dell will have some Christmas discounts. Now, whether they will be better than some other sales that come up from time to time is another question.
-
Could anyone tell me if this is a good price:
-
What is the notebook used for? Gaming? Word processing? Browsing? Engineer work?
-
Browsing, photoshop, work related stuff etc. No gaming.
-
For that config the price is not something to scream out in joy for, but it's definitely reasonable. If you call dell and talk to them on the phone you might be able to get a better deal. It also might be cheaper to get 512MB/1GB RAM and then just buy 2GB of RAM sticks off NCIX or another online store.
-
I just noticed this and thought there was a thread on the matter.
I guess its a holiday thing - instead of reducing the price, like I expected, they increased it, at least for the m1210! -
They reduce price of low end laptop's like e1501 or amd based models. For other models they will remove the ATI graphics card n put intel one there or lower the cpu spec etc and add some bundle like a Bag or external harddrive or something and call it a special holiday deal. Not.
-
don't worry too much about the prices/ missing options. Dell does that if they are out of stock temporarily. dell is one of the largest vendors all around, so it's expected they'll burn off tons of chips each day for their stuff...
i remember the 7200rpm hard drives were taken out temporarily, but now they're back. the T2500 was missing at one point too (during the yonah era). -
Its first week of Dec. And 20% off coupons on 'select laptops' are out from Dell Canada. After you customize this 'select laptop' (Inspiron 6400) the price before applying coupon comes out around $1900 - $2000. This laptop comes with X1300 and there is no option to choose x1400.
If you goto dell.ca site directly and customize the Inspiron 6400 to similar configuration the price comes to $1684. -
I vaguely recall back to school time just when core 2 duo was introduced. I remember the e1705/9400 having t7400 (2.16ghz, 2gb of 667 ram, 7900gs for 1799 canadian. i even remember them putting dell draft n wireless in it for free as well for like 2 days lol. whoever bought their laptop at that time lucked out cause it costs 2100+ for that now.
Yea basically they change prices all the time. -
-
-
now for example they've gone back to the 2.16ghz and 667 ram (thank god they went away from 220 dollars to upgrade from 2gb 533-->667, what a waste) for 16xx. But now they charge you 370 to get a 7900gs which is crazy and pushes it over 2000 again.
your right bmnotpls there really havent been any good deals since august. -
Welcome to the wonderful world of dell -
They will come down in the New Year. Back to school is over and the prices today reflect last minute shopper impulse buying. After Jan 10 I think you will see the prices drop off a bit as sales drop into the usual retail slump of jan/feb.
They can charge anything they want 3 days before Christmas!
Prices raised? Missing options?
