It is supposed to reduce viewing angles on your screen via software pattern for privacy. It was offered as an option, but I'm not sure if it needs hardware support for it to work. If it doesn't work, it's probably that you didn't order it then.

what hardware is required? i recently get my motherboard replaced by Dell and this option comes up so i guess the new board should have supported. or it need LCD panel to support as well.

I think it's probably the LCD. It could also be in the BIOS, but I'm not sure.

    Dell Electronic Privacy Screen Option

It sounds like it is a software option, but something you have to pay for up front to enable. My guess is Dell disables the feature for laptops that are not ordered with it and I doubt you can get around it. (Not that we'd allow that discussion anyway)

It's actually a combo of software and hardware. You needed to pick a monitor option that allows this to work. :)

    No, the internal LCD.
