So i have been connecting pretty well and consistantly to a local wireless signal, well actually any number of them, and until recently everything was ok. Im not sure what could have happened or changed, but now i have a VERY difficult time connecting to ANY wireless network. My computer sees them, anywhere from full to half strength(as always) and when i connect it sits at the connecting screen for a few min then says it can't connect, i say diagnose and it says stuff like "could be low connection quality" and such, which i know is wrong as the signal is good and my laptop hasn't moved in quite some time.

Is there a way to manually reset the wireless adapter, or release all the stored information it has, i tried restarting my comp, that didn't help. Im going to search for updates right now, so we'll see if that helps.

Any other ideas are greatly appriciated.
    Thanks

yeah...I think I have almost the same problem as yours. My laptop can't connect to my own wireless router...it's stuck on my neighbors. even if I can detect it....

    Lol, completely agree.

DSL is $14.99 a month now in most places. There's no excuse to steal someone's internet access and complain that it's not working.

Well there is obviously a problem with my computer as my roomates computers both hook up fine. I actually am not living anywhere right now, my current job takes me to many different places with temporary living situations. Where i am now is mostly my base, but that does not account for much time spent here. While traveling i also encounter the same problem, even with connections that are known to work and be legitimately free.

So If anyone else has some helpful information PLEASE, i could use it, and it would be much appriciated.

I am also running vista basic where as my roomates are using Windows XP, and the other is using Vista Premium.

    Thank you for your help.

New driver, new wireless card, a clean install... the possibilities are endless.

In Vista, my computer doesn't connect if I have the laptop in "Power Saver" mode (even if I move my laptop right next to my router). When I run in either "Balanced" , "High Performance" modes, or if I plug in the power brick, I have no problems.

Your laptop my turn off the wireless card in power saver mode to conserve battery life. Either change the settings in the control panel or manually turn on your card.
