Hi all,I'm new to the forums here and thought I'd try posting as I don't know where else to turn for help
I reinstalled the operating system from the operating system CD for my daughters laptop. Viewed the faq for installing drivers from the driver CD but am having some problems. The system models listed on the CD are MXC051, Inspiron ME 051 , & Inspiron 710M. I don't know which is the proper one to use for the E1505.
If I find the proper system model to use it narrows the choices of devices and drivers to install considerably. I have been using computers for about 10 years now and am by no means a dummy but have never installed drivers before. I have managed to get online by a network cable installed to my router, have installed Norton Internet security 2008,run all the latest windows updates.
In Device Manager I have several items listed in yellow as driver not installed. The info I need is which of the three choices to use for system model and how to install the drivers for unknown devices which I have listed below.
Base System Device #1- PCI Bus 3 DEV 1 Function 3 #2 PCI Bus 3 DEV 1 Function 2 #3 '''''''''''''''Function 4
Network Controller-Intel 82801 G Express Root Port #1PCi Bus 11 Dev 0 Function 0
Pci DEvice #1Pci bus 0 dev 27 function 0 Video Controller #1 Pci bus 0 dev 2 function 1
Video Controller #1 vga compatible bus 0 dev 2 function 0
I am having a problem loading the drivers for these unknown devices and would need step by step instructions since Dell's web site support is very sketchy and doesn't even have drivers listed for the 1505,I'm assuming that they are the same as for one of the other models. Also I don't know which driver listed on the CD corresponds to which unknown device in Device Manager.
My daughter starts online college courses tonight and I'm trying to get the wireless working by then and get these unknown devices problem resolved.
Thanks
Villasbill
(I also posted this on the Dell website forum before I found this one,I try not to crosspost but time is of the essence here!)

Dell has your drivers. -
Thanks Lithus,I was on that page also but didn't know which out of the 57 drivers available that I had to download. For example there are 10 different drivers for network/wireless cards.
I called Dell support, charge was 39.95 to resolve it. However the tech was gracious enough to tell give me a list of the 5 drivers I needed to download.
As far as I know I wasn't charged, didn't give her any credit card info.
After I hung up I downloaded and installed the 5 drivers, one of them I already had and another one I already had must have been wrong because it was overwritten.
Back in buisness now, wireless is working, graphics look a lot better.Still have 4 unknown devices showing, the 3 base system devices and one pci device but I'll worry about that later.
thanx

Just found out a couple days ago that daughter bought a Sony Vaio laptop because the sound wasn't working after I reloaded everything for her.None of the drivers on Dell's website seemed to work so I downloaded the Everest program that somebody on another site gave me.That is an excellent program for telling it what hardware you have installed.Between those findings and the Driver CD that came with the laptop I managed to get the sound working again, along with the modem that was also not showing as installed. Part of the problem is the drivers for your model are labled as drivers for a different earlier model and sometimes there can be up to ten different drivers t choose from
Still have three of them in device manager that are yellow but I'm not worried right now.
That's it for now-to be continued
