    Gentleman,

I recently purchased an Inspiron 1520 after doing entirely too much lurking within these forums. While it is a nice notebook, here is my main gripe.

The front media buttons were shoddily installed, meaning from left to right they are increasingly difficult to depress. Also, the more I use them, the further into the chassis they retreat.

I can think of two potential solutions:
1.) Open up the casing and attempt to secure the buttons at a better angle
    2.) Call Dell support

So, obviously rooting around within areas of the laptop that are not documented in the FRU guides is risky. And even if I can get to the buttons, it's possible I won't be able to improve the situation.

My question is, since this is my only PC, how badly will Dell dick me around if I call for support? If they request that I send it back for factory work, how long can I expect to be without it? If it will be easier to take it apart... Please advise, any input is greatly appreciated.

    -Al

I'd recommend you give them a call and they should fix it ;)...

I had a RTD (Return to Depot) warranty on my i5160 and Dell never took more than a day to fix it. So I'd loose the machine for ~3 days (1 day to get to them, 1 day to fix and reship, and 1 day to arrive back to me) at the most...

If you have the at home service then they'll just visit you ;)
