So my E1505 randomly stopped working on me. I'm thinking the mobo is shot, but thought I would ask everyone here and see if you can shed some light on it.
So basically, the machine just shut off and when I try to turn it on the numlock button lights up, and the caps lock and scroll lock buttons flash. This lasts for about 30 seconds, and then all power shuts off. Nothing comes up on the screen, and it doesn't even sound like it is trying to work. I've checked all connections, reseated/thermal greased CPU, everything I could think of.
So, anyone have any idea what might be going on here?
Thanks

This light sequence means there is a problem with the memory modules. Do the following:
1. Remove both modules. re-insert both, see if it works.
2. Remove one. See if it works
3. Try the one that is still in the machine in the other memory slot, see if it works.
4. Take the one out of the machine and put the other one back in, see if it works.
5. Try that same one in the other memory slot. See if it works.
Do all tests regardless of whether you find one that works. This will tell you whether the problem is with the connector on the motherboard or the stick of RAM. Hopefully it's just the SODIMM, because these are really cheap to replace.
Let me know.

The num lock, is the first light? i.e. it goes num lock, caps lock, scroll lock in order left to right on your machine? If so then it is 100% definitely a problem with the memory modules. That light sequence means that the memory modules are not being detected. This could be due to one or both modules being faulty, the SODIMM connectors being faulty, or a short in the connections between the connectors and the mainboard.
FYI the light sequences mean as below:
One LED On, Two LED flashing
ON FLASH FLASH - No memory modules detected
Two LED On One LED flashing
ON FLASH ON - Memory detected but you have a failed module.
One LED flashing Two LED On
FLASH ON ON - CPU or processor failure
Two LED flashing One LED On
FLASH FLASH On - Graphics card failure
Two LED flashing One LED On
FLASH ON FLASH - LCD Failure
Two LED flashing One LED Off
FLASH FLASH OFF - Keyboard failure
Two LED flashing One LED Off
FLASH OFF FLASH - USB failure
The on flash on is not always displayed as often the boot check gets stuck and simply displays the on flash flash.
It may certainly be that the motherboard is shot if you've tried all combinations of RAM / connectors - I'd suggest that if you are out of warranty you try to borrow some RAM from a friend or buy a cheap module somewhere, even a 512MB module would do for testing, as long as it's a DDR2 200pin SODIMM. It's cheaper to try this first rather than trying to source a new motherboard.
Otherwise, what you have there is a rather expensive paper weight / door stop.
