Hi Everyone,
I was given a presumed dead Inspiron 910. I purchased a a/c adapter and let it charge overnight. Low and behold, it booted right up and holds a charge great. It is running Windows XP on its 8GB SSD. I purchased a 64 GB SSD and installed it along with a 2 GB ram stick.
When I power up the netbook, the power LED comes one for 3 seconds and goes off. No splash screen, no POST, no BIOS. Nothing. I put the original 8 GB drive back in and it boots right up. I put in the 64 GB back in and get the same thing. Power LED on for 3 seconds and right off. I did some research and learned that it does not support a 64 GB drive but does support a 32 GB. I returned the 64 and ordered the 32.
I installed the 32 GB SSD and it does exactly the same thing. Power LED comes on for 3 seconds and goes dark. I put the original drive back in and it is fine. I have tried the pulling the battery and booting of a/c power only and it still get the power LED for 3 seconds and then it goes out.
Does anyone have any ideas? I have seen other people talking about running them with 32 GB SSDs. There has to be a way to take care of this. Any information, suggestions, or ideas will be greatly appreciate. Thank you all in advance and have a great day!
Respectfully,
George D.

Well, cross posting on the Dell Community forums has provided me with the answer. . It has to be a miniPCIE PATA SSD
Amazon.com: Kingspec 64GB IDE/PATA- miniPCIE SSD for Dell Mini 9 910 Vostro A90 50MM / 70MM: Computers & Accessories
and not a mSATA like this
Amazon.com: Kingston SSDNow mS100 64GB mSATA Internal Solid State Drive SMS100S2/64G: Electronics
Thank you all for the help. Have a great afternoon! -
